Mari, Our Little Norwegian Cousin by Mary Hazelton Blanchard Wade (1860 - 1936) .

This project is now in our catalog at http://librivox.org/mari-our-little-norwegian-cousin-by-mary-hazelton-blanchard-wade/
"Long before Columbus discovered America, there were brave men in the north of Europe who dared to sail farther out upon the unknown waters of the Atlantic than any other people in the world. These daring seamen were called Vikings. Their home was the peninsula of Scandinavia, now ruled over by one king, although divided into two distinct countries, Norway and Sweden.

Many of our Norwegian cousins have come to America to make a new home for themselves where the sun shines more warmly and the winds blow less keenly. Their fair-haired children are growing up amongst us, showing us the qualities their parents most admire. Be brave, be honest, be kind to all creatures, be faithful to every little duty,—these are the lessons they have been taught from babyhood, as well as their brothers and sisters who have not as yet ventured far from the land they love so well,—the land of rapid-flowing rivers, deep, dark bays, and narrow valleys.... Come with me to-day to the home of one of these blue-eyed cousins and join her for a while in her work and play."(Summary by preface of the author)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you'd like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 6 weeks of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text?
Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/42079
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Artist: Mary Hazelton Blanchard Wade
Album: Mari, Our Little Norwegian Cousin

Please ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.

Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.

I'd be happy to do the Preface (and calling it number 00?)
Good Luck with the Project!

That would be great Ernst. Say "Preface of Mari, Our Little Norwegian Cousin, " then before reading it say Mari, Our Little Norwegian Cousin Preface" no need to say zero zero.

By the way, this should be interesting to you, eh?

EDIT: this is what you should say "Preface of Mari, Our Little Norwegian Cousin. - This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say:

Thank you ^, I would be wonderful to have you DPL. This is standard PLing, meaning .. well, here is a video Proof Listening 101 that explains most of it and the first post has links to our wiki. If you have any questions, just ask.

EDIT: you will probably need a password to get into the Magic Window. Once you have watched the video, post a message in this thread and I will PM you the special secret password. Image

Dear Phil: Yes, I find it interesting and I might want to volunteer for another chapter, but... I still have to do recordings (not too long ones though) for a drama-reading. I struggle a bit with it, can't find the right '' voice' etc. But I shall let you know when I'll be 'ready'. Good Luck!

We will be here Ernst, waiting. And I know you will do well with the dramatic reading; my experience is that the 'voice' seems to come out easily when I understand the person and what they are saying. So trust yourself!
