The Old Curiosity Shop; Hard Times; A Tale of Two Cities; Oliver Twist; The Pickwick Papers. Have you read any or all of these famous Dickens stories? The author of this marvelous book, Rives Ermine, a highly successful author in her own right, simply wanted to retell the basic elements of some of Dickens best beloved novels and story lines. Now is your chance to revisit these stories and revive the memories of great reads. Of it you haven't gotten around to some of these classics, this would be a marvelous chance to read what they are about so you can enjoy them even more in the original later. Since they are fairly short, I expect readers to claim all sections of a particular book. I think it will make for more consistent flow by the reader and by the future listener. Note that I have added the author's essay on Charles Dickens as the last section of the book. summary by Phil Chenevert)
Volunteers outside the USA: HALLIE ERMINIE RIVES died in 1956. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, and Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955).
How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you'd like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Yep! I just sent everyone home, noticed that I had not logged out of LibriVox and decided to check for new projects! Great timing for me! Something lovely to read in this new year.

I forgot to say that I think it would be nice for readers to start with the Cast of Characters if they are included at the beginning of each 'book'. Also I will be changing the beginning disclaimer for the second parts of each book if you read all of them. Will explain more in the first post.

So now you'll have to listen to me too.
Ruth
P.S. It's OK for me to read under the Rule of the Shorter Term, as the author was American.
P.P.S. What do you want done about the Character list at the beginning, please? EDITED TO ADD: Ah, just seen your post above, thank you.
What Fun! This will be great Ruth. Although you should be aware that the author does not write like Dickens.
EDIT: forget the following paragraphs. Decisions have beenmade!
Yes, I am open to opinions from all about whether to read the character lists or not at the beginning of each 'book'. My inclination is to include it or make it readers choice. I will make the decision no later tomorrow morning (Wednesday to me) and post it in the thread and in the first post.
Also, I am going to stipulate that the longer disclaimer will be used for only the first 'book' in a series. I don't know about everyone else, but I am having fun ! After church today I am invited to eat gumbo at my son's house. yum. what a nice way to start a new year
