UNCLE WIGGILY'S STORY BOOK, by Howard R. Garis (1873 - 1962)

This book can be found in our catalog at https://librivox.org/uncle-wiggilys-story-book-version-2-by-howard-r-garis/
Uncle Wiggily, the Gentleman Rabbit, has had a lot of adventures. Here are some of the most amusing and exciting ones. As always, Uncle Wiggily remains a gentleman no matter how big a mess he happens to make or how outlandish the people and animals he meets on his happy meanderings. Listen to these fun stories read with enthusiasm by LibriVox recorders. (Summary by phil chenevert)

Hi kaleiilima and a big welcome to LibriVox! :D I have assigned that section to you but before you record it, please make and upload a 1 minute test to be sure your recording set up is OK. Instructions can be found in our Wiki and in the first post of this project but Here is a video that may help too: How to Make your 1 minute test.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlaRY_-bcfs and then How to Upload your 1 minute test [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_8Rdrx4COs]How to Upload your 1 minute test[/url]

I also recommend Getting To Know our Forums Getting To Know Our Forums

We just want to check out your technical specs. Don't forget to post the link either in this thread or in our Post Your 1-Minute Test Recording Here forum. And how would you like to be credited in our catalog? What name? most of us use our real name but it is up to you.

First off your voice is wonderful, gut there are a few technical things you need to do before recording:
1) We require a bit rate of 128kbs constant; your present rate is 104 kbs variable.
2) We aim at a volume of 90 decibels; your current volume is 72 decibels.

Fixing the bit rate should be easy; when you export a file, there is a box at the bottom to check what bit rate you wish. pick 128kbs and in Mode, Constant
Volume is somewhat harder. Try to increase the volume going into your computer, some microphones have adjustable volume; if so, turn it up. You really need to kick up that volume. Inside Audacity there are adjustments for increasing your input volume, looks like a microphone. slide that to the right.
Then when you think it is enough, look at your actual wave form on the screen: is it still tiny and flat? not good. Youwant the peaks to be around 0.5. this explains it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9WF82rf81o and this http://youtu.be/nNreCl3XCFE . Then when you have a decent volume you can actually use the edit>amplify effect. So please fix these things, make another test, CALL IT TEST 2, upload it and put the link here. I will check it out right away.
You are vey close. :D

Ok, the bit rate is fine now but your volume has increased too much overshooting the mark, coming in at 96 decibels. We aim at 89 dB. Also, you have a lot of 'plosives, popping sounds when you say a word beginning with P. If you listen to the track they are easy to hear. What I want you to do now is move the microphone a bit to the side while you record, letting your breath go past the mic instead of directly into it. Make another test using this technique; then before you export it,select the entire trac, and run Effect > Loudness Normalization at -19 luffs. (this video shows you how https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSKR55RDVpk&list=PLD623ECF357234509&index=46&t=8s) Export it as TEST 3, and send it in. Let's get you closer to 89 dB. :D
