On the Preparations of the Indian Hemp ..., by William Brooke O'Shaughnessy (1809 - 1889)

This project is now complete. All files can be downloaded from the catalog page:
https://librivox.org/on-the-preparations-of-the-indian-hemp-by-william-brooke-oshaughnessy/

The author investigated the uses of cannabis resin as an anticonvulsant and relaxant in cases of tetanus, cholera, and infantile convulsions. He and others also carried out animal studies on its use, and noted its low toxicity. He recommended that British doctors assessed the drug's use in such cases. (Summary by Peter Yearsley)

Target completion date: 2022-08-01

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I've already recorded this paper; I just have to cut it into three sections, with intro and outro added, then it'll be ready for PL.

PL'd section one. Very clean recording and no issues.

Peter, you have a lovely reading voice and cadence.

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks, Dave. You might want to PL at increased tempo. It cuts down on the time it takes; if you're listening against the text, it does need more concentration, though.

In Audacity, from the menu .... Effect / Change Tempo. I listen at 50% increased tempo. This makes it easy to calculate the time stamp for any errors in the original file: just add a half to the time (so 3 min 20 in the speeded up file is equivalent to 5 mins in the original file).

Sorry for the delay Peter, I went out of town for the weekend.

Thanks for the tip, it definitely sped things up.

Section 3 sounded good, PL OK.

Thanks, Ava; like the phallic worship book, it'll be interesting to see how many people are attracted by the title.

Given the political currents at the moment, I'd say there are more aficionados of weed than phallic worshippers.

Actually, I was tempted to add the genres "Self Help" and "Sports & Recreation". But that might be misleading...

Anyway,

.... and do we have "confectionery", "giggling" or "munchies" categories? (There's a lovely description of how to prepare a delicious-sounding sweet.)
