Hi. I have attempted to break this book into logical sections but may need some assistance with this if it needs adjustments. Howard.

Double Crossed, by Wilfrid Douglas Newton (1884 - 1951)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/double-crossed-by-wilfrid-douglas-newton/

Clement Seadon is a young man of free spirit and a lust for a life of independence. However after receiving an odd request from a lawyer he is compelled to involve himself in the prevention of a dangerous plot to swindle an heiress. (Summary by Howard Skyman)
Source text (please read only from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/67529

Target completion date: 2022-08-15

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

OK, your MW is up. We will wait here a day or so to see if we can pick up a DPL.

Please note that I fixed the author's name in the post above. The W. in the name is Wilfrid, not William.

As far as how to divide the chapters, are you worried about length or that there are divisions within the chapter?

Hi Ann. Thanks for fixing the author’s name. I didn’t catch that. As far as the sections are concerned, each chapter is divided into multiple parts. I did my best to eyeball them for length and divide the chapters and parts into sections that made sense but it was not an exact science. Hopefully it will work out but we may need to juggle them around as I proceed. I have tried to find a method of obtaining word counts but the only place I see them is in word processors, not Ebook reading software.

Hi Howard, I found a word-count add-on for Firefox, so if you read through your browser that may be an option? I usually look at the HTML from Gutenberg and count that.

Also, I'd be happy to DPL :)

Another suggestion for a word counter is a website called wordcal.com. I use that all the time, just copy and paste the text into the box and click it. It is an extra step with the copying and pasting, but I like it. I think dividing up the chapters by the section numbers within the chapter is the best solution. I would say, "Chapter 1 part 1 of Doubled Crossed." Or you could say, "Section 1 of Double Crossed," then give the chapter 3 and part # when you give the chapter title. Whichever way is fine with me. And if we need to add sections, or make some disappear, we can easily do that!

Krista, you are in as DPL, thank you!

Off we go to Going Solo!

Thanks Ann. I saw that earlier today but also found an app for my Mac from the App Store called Word-Counter for a couple bucks. It counts words just by selecting and copying without the paste step. Seems to work really well.

Section 1 is PL OK, with one question/comment.

You start it off with "section 1". Partway through we get "end of chapter 1 part 1" and at the end we have "end of chapter 1 part 2". Should you not follow that with "end of section 1" to identify the end of the recording?

I tend to agree Krista. Having said that I think I should also say the full “chapter 1 part 2 before starting the part 2 narration. I will make the necessary changes and keep that format throughout the project unless you advise something else. Thanks.

Yes, I agree. That did catch my ear, now that you mention it.
