[group] The Strangest Things in the World: A Book About Extraordinary Manifestations of Nature , by Thomas Henry (1933 - 1967)

This project can now be found in our catalog at https://librivox.org/the-strangest-things-in-the-world-a-book-about-extraordinary-manifestations-of-nature-by-thomas-r-henry/

Volunteers outside the USA: Thomas Henry died in 1967. This person's work may still be protected by copyright in countries where copyright duration is determined by the author's death date. In Europe this is 70 years; in Canada it is 50 years; and in Australia it is 70 years for authors who died after 1955.
"THE STRANGEST THINGS IN THE WORLD - A Book About Extraordinary Manifestations of Nature" This title sums up the wonderful line up in this book. Short pieces about the strange and often bewildering things that occur in our world, from the insect that is born pregnant, to the fearsome poison arrow frog and about 170 others. If you like odd facts and weird plants and animals, this collection will delight you. So pick something interesting and enjoy reading it. The author is one of the world’s best-known and most respected science writers. This book is a personal and unique distillation of the wisdom he has developed in a lifetime of dealing with man’s effort to resolve the paradoxes of nature.- from the Introduction (Summary by phil c and the introduction)

Looks like you're still populating the MW, but can I submit an early claim for 22, 36 and 42?

Yes. Two had their feelings hurt by not being put first in the book and are still miffed.

Hello,
I'm a new volunteer. Right now gutenberg.org seems to be down, so I don't know yet if this book would be right for me.
But I need to check something first. I did the 1-minute test in English, which is not my mother tongue...
I'm happy to read English books, particularly considering that there isn't a lot in Italian and (Argentinian) Spanish; what are the guidelines please?

Hi Claudia,

I'm not having any trouble accessing Gutenberg right now. Perhaps something on your end? This book page did take a few seconds to load, but it came up eventually.

As for language, I recall listening to your test in English, and I don't believe you have anything at all to worry about. People are free to record in any language they speak. Librivox accepts all readings, regardless of accent (and I personally found you very easy to understand anyway).

thanks,
Our first Strangest Thing - "Plants That Create Mirages" - is PL OK. Huzzah; we are underway.

Phil, since there are over 100 sections in this book, should everyone be submitting file names with three digit chapter numbers in the title. (So the file for section one would be thestrangestthingsintheworld_001_henry_128kb.mp3, etc. ??_
