Messiah: Fifty Expository Discourses on the Oratorio of Handel, by John Newton (1725 - 1807)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/messiah-fifty-expository-discourses-on-the-oratorio-of-handel-by-john-newton/
The celebrated German-British composer G.F. Handel premiered his now famous oratorio "Messiah" in 1742. In 1785 there was a celebration at Westminster Abbey of Handel's birth 100 years before. It was on this occasion that John Newton decided to preach 50 sermons from the Bible passages that form the libretto (by Charles Jennens) of Messiah. The sermons were preached over two years in the Parish Church of St. Mary Woolnoth, Lombard-Street - 3 miles from Westminster Abbey. (Summary by InTheDesert)

This concludes my BCing projects to set up for 2022. These sermons are longer per sermon but I hope the author, subject, circumstances and summary (thanks Phil) will prove popular. I will DPL.

Welcome to LV Thaddeus!

It would be great to have you record the sermon 2. We'd just need you to do your recording test so that your technical specs are all ok.

What a remarkable project! Every sermon I skimmed was remarkable. I would like to be a part of this memorable work. I would like to claim the following sermons:

3 The Shaking of the Heavens and the Earth (Haggai 2:6, 7) Link to text 3360 words Open
4 The LORD Coming To His Temple (Malachi 3:1-3) Link to text 4580 words Open

Thank you!
