Andersonville: A Story of Rebel Military Prisons, by John McElroy (1846 - 1929)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/andersonville-a-story-by-john-mcelroy/
A comprehensive four-volume history of one soldier's 15 months in Andersonville Prison during the Civil War. The book is divided into 83 chapters, each with a different event witnessed during the author's incarceration. Andersonville was a notoriously cruel Confederate prisoner camp, with many of the Union soldiers imprisoned dying due to the deplorable conditions within. All four volumes will be covered as a complete book. [CHAPTER LXXXI. Written by a Rev. Sheppard and omitted in this edition.]

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated). Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

MW coming up.

edit: I shortened the file name. Long ones cause problems.

Sounds good. Seems like I did the same thing with a long name before. In the 1800s, they liked long names (like the ridiculous one Melville attached at the end of Moby Dick's title.

Record at your own pace and as you are the BC you will need to enter the information in the MW.

Dave,
I cannot figure out what is going wrong. I posted the introduction through the uploader, went to the MW, and it is there (13+ minutes long) but it is total silence on my computer. Help!

Okay, I figured it out. It just wouldn't play through my interface. It does have sound through my computer speakers.

In the intro you say "section 1." This is section 0. Rather than say "section 0" you could say "introduction" and then say "chapter x" for all future sections. Otherwise pl ok!

Got it. I'll have to do it in the morning or else wait until the renovations on the house next door are halted for lunch or dinner.

If you decide to read the preface you could add it at the end of this section (Introduction and Preface) or put it at the beginning of the next section (Preface and Chapter 1). If you decide not to read the preface then of course the next section will be "Chapter 1."

GAAA! There are two prefaces, the second being the Author's Preface. Can we insert another section in the MW in the No. two position?

I only see one preface (Author's) followed by a poem. Regardless, to keep the section and chapter numbers identical I would add the preface(s) and poem either to the end of Section 0 (called "Introduction and Preface") or at the beginning of Section 1 ("Preface and Chapter 1"). Section 2 would then be Chapter 2, Section 3 is Chapter 3, etc.

The intro I did this morning is before the author's preface (and I think that ends with a poem). Let me combine them and change the first few lines and last few lines of the intro. That we we can hang onto the single section.

Good idea!
