The Art of Music - Volume 02: Classicism and Romanticism, by The National Society of Music

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-art-of-music-volume-02-by-national-society-of-music/
Volume 2 in "The Art of Music" series, published by the National Society of Music. This first volume covers the Classical and Romantic periods, encompassing: Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, opera in Italy and France, Romanticism, song literature, pianoforte and chamber music, orchestral literature, romantic opera, choral song, Wagner and Wagnerism, Brahms, Franck, Verdi and other contemporaries. (Summary by Jake Malizia)
Source text (please read only from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/65865

Footnotes: at your discretion. If you think a footnote adds something interesting or useful, include it. Use your own judgement on it. I don't mind if you choose not to include them.

In the MW, when I say "intro to chapter", I mean the bit of text before subsection "I" starts ... if that is applicable. Some of the chapters start at I, and some have a sort of "pre-I", which I'm calling "intro to chapter".

I don't need you to read the chapter summary. For instance, the summary for Chapter 1:
"the eighteenth century and operatic convention—Porpora and Hasse—Pergolesi and the opera buffa—Jommelli, Piccini, Cimarosa, etc.—Gluck’s early life; the Metastasio period—The comic opera in France; Gluck’s reform; Orfeo and Alceste—The Paris period; Gluck and Piccini; the Iphigénies; Gluck’s mission—Gluck’s influence; Salieri and Sarti; the development of opéra comique; Cherubini."
I don't need these.

Do your best to get pronunciation of composers/muscial terminology etc correct. This is standard PL still, but if you need any guidance with pronunciation you can DM me, or do a bit of Googling.

Deadline: Please submit your recording within 2 months of placing your claim. If you cannot complete the recording within this time, please post in the thread to relinquish your claim or to ask the BC for an extension. If your recording is not completed by the deadline, your claim may be reassigned at the BC's discretion.

Claiming sections: Look in the Magic Window below for the list of available sections. Post a reply in this thread asking for the section you would like to record.

New to recording? Please see our Newbie Guide to Recording for further instructions. A quick guide to our required technical settings can be found here. When you post your file, please tell the BC what name you would like to use in our catalog.

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I'll PL as things come in, but happy for a DPL to take over.

I will assign sections to myself which require musical excerpts, just so it's easier for prospective readers. No one has to worry about editing in music - just reading.

With regards footnotes, it's reader's discretion. Please include footnotes if you think they add something to the text, but I'm not asking for them all.

I'll be glad to set this up for you. Be right back with the MW.

Update: The MW is up. I've changed "02" to "2" in the intros and outros to avoid confusion. If you'd like to add the instructions in your follow-up post to the first post for better visibility (e.g., in the project summary or just above the MW), you can change the first post by clicking on the pencil icon.

Hi Jake,
Would it be more help to you if I take a few sections to read, or to be DPL?

Thank you, Michael. I've now populated the MW. Could you remove the last section - I miscounted.

Ohh... hmm. Well considering your name, I wouldn't want to deprive you of being able to record a section. It's up to you really. If you want to DPL you can. Or you can do a mix. You could be DPL and I can PL any sections that you might want to record.

I don't want to burden you with too much work, so you say what you're happy and able to do :D

Jim now has access to the MW, and if MozartJr PLs some of the sections, someone else will just update the MW.

Moving the thread to Readers Wanted.
