Hey guys! I'm currently working on another solo read with an end date in December, but the one below I've recently stumbled on after thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail and the John Muir Trail. I want to share this with the world! :)

Walking, by Henry David Thoreau

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/walking-by-henry-david-thoreau-2/
Will summarize after reading (Summary by )
Source text (please read only from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/files/1022/1022-h/1022-h.htm

Target completion date: 2021-10-26

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

If it's really only one section, it would go in the Short Nonfiction Collection. It's fully searchable from there.

However, I see it's about 12,000 words, which will probably be over an hour - more like 80 minutes. This is flirting with our desire to keep recordings to the length of an audio CD so that someone can burn it to a CD.

SO... you will probably want to break this up into 2 or 3 sections, in which case, it would stay as a bona fide solo. [*insert smiley depicting intense brain activity here*]

There is a solo version already in the catalog in case that matters to you.

Thank you Tricia and Jo,

I'll edit the code for 3 sections in the next day or so. I can't access our forum at work except on my phone.

That's odd, I actually searched for it and couldn't find it in our catalog. Though if there's only one version, I'd still love to record a second one. :)

OK, this is set up.

Your catalog page now has athenspets.net as your personal URL. Do you want it changed to AppalachianTrailClarity.com? (It can't be changed for individual projects only; it's a global change.)

Ooh, I'm excited! I plan to do some reading this weekend on both of my current projects! Yes, Tricia, please change my URL to AppalachianTrailClarity if not too much trouble. Thank you, Oreki, for being my listener! :D

Great! Be sure to change the status in the last column to "Ready for PL". This puts it in that column in the DPL's list. ;)

PL notes for Section 1:
  • Please set the bitrate of the mp3 file to "Constant" and 128 kbps.
  • Please rename the mp3 file to "walking_01_thoreau_128kb" so that it follows the filename format.
  • 21:50 - Heard "End of section 1 of Walking by Henry David Thoreau.", should be just "End of section 1."
An excellent recording, by the way! :D

Hi all,

I made Oreki's suggested changes for section 1!

Hey there,

Looks good to me. Just one more thing: could you rename the file so that it's in all lowercase letters? It should be this name exactly, without the quotation marks: "walking_01_thoreau_128kb"

Thanks!
