By What Authority? by Robert Hugh Benson (1871 - 1914).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/by-what-authority-by-robert-hugh-benson/
(By What Authority

Two wealthy families are neighbors in Elizabethan England; one is staunchly Catholic and the other is devoutly Protestant. The attractive young scions of the families are drawn to each other in friendship and love, but are kept apart by their opposing religions. Life is very difficult for Catholics during those times. They are subject to fines, imprisonment, torture and ignominious death for practicing their faith. On the other hand, for various reasons some Catholics give up their inherited faith, and even betray and persecute their fellow-religionists. As the threads of plot are woven tighter, heroes emerge, sometimes most unexpectedly, as they grapple with theological doubts and conflicts, and undergo extreme suffering and loss. The many characters we meet ring true, whether they are brilliant or superstitious, stalwart or wavering, pious or violent; and it is a great privilege to spend time with such towering historical figures as St. Edmond Campion and Queen Elizabeth herself. Love, history, theology, suspense, and an array of colorful characters are sewn inexorably together in this large and compelling story. )

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I can DPL, however I can't check for technical issues, but I listen for reading errors.

This is set up.

Carol - are you OK with your DPL not checking tech specs? I see you've done solos before, so chances are you have the volume, bit rate, etc. stuff down pat. :)

Erick - I was putting in the whole "new DPL" spiel, but I see you've got Magic Window access to another project already. :) FYI, here is your "reader page": https://librivox.org/sections/readers/12592 If you click on Reader Section details and then "PL View", you can see a list of projects you're DPL'ing and what sections of those projects are at what stage in the process. :)

Hello. I have read 2 books solo, so I guess I know the basics, though I am always receptive to advice and suggestions. I appreciate Erick helping on this project.

Good evening.
I have 2 chapters to upload. Please forgive my ignorance, but, TriciaG, are you the mc? I just want to be sure.

Oh, and I was picturing that you were off on a vacation in the outback of Australia or the wilds of Northern Canada.

Well, I used to be from Scotland. It's kinda a back and forth type of thing. Anyway, can't wait for the next two
