Celebrated Crimes, Vol. 5: Part 1: Desrues by Alexandre Dumas (1802 - 1870). Translated by George Burnham Ives (1856 - 1930)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/celebrated-crimes-vol-5-part-1-desrues-by-alexandre-dumas/

This story chronicles the crimes of Antoine-Francois Desrues (also called "Derues") from his childhood to his execution. Desrues constructed the veneer of a virtuous reputation that hid his ever-increasing deviancy from society. Eventually, his lust for fame and fortune (especially the latter) crumbled his virtuous veneer, revealing the startling extent of his crimes, and condemning him to justice by the executioner's hand. • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi John and Lynnet,

This is just to let you know that I'm going to be in London for the next two weeks doing a course and then a few days vacation and sight seeing. I'm not taking a computer and have never been handy with smart phones though I finally have one - don't know if I'll be able to get it working in another country. If you upload anything while I'm gone, John, I'll get to it when I get back. :)

Hi Patty Marie,

I've uploaded all but the final section for this story (I'll only need 7 sections instead of 8). But, have fun in London!! Don't worry at all about PL-ing while away ;) Besides, these celebrated crimes can be huge downers

All the best,
John

Sections 1 is PL OK. Sections 2 and 3 might need some corrections I'll need to find the exact locations of and post later.

Hi Patty Marie,

I've added the final section (Section 7), so it looks like we can delete section 8 as we won't be needing it.

Sorry for my delay, I've been traveling. But, now I'm looking forward to finishing this project and tackling the next section (La Constantin). I'll be posting the new project on the forum today. So, if you'd like to DPL that go ahead and join in :) Also, Lynne, if you're interested to MC go ahead and claim it!

Got your PL comments, and my initial thoughts are that I'd rather move forward to the next project than tap into all those places where the "Cure" is mentioned... would that be ok?

Hope everyone's summer is going well!
Best,
John

Great to see another one in the catalog! We're really cruising through these Celebrated Crimes - maybe the whole series will be complete by the end of this year? ;)

Thanks again!
