Celebrated Crimes, Vol. 4, Part 2: Urbain Grandier by Alexandre Dumas (1802 - 1870). Translated by George Burnham Ives (1856 - 1930)
All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/celebrated-crimes-vol-4-part-2-urbain-grandier-by-alexandre-dumas/

This is the dramatic story of Urbain Grandier, a catholic priest, who had a reputation to rival that of Casanova, which ultimately led to his destruction. He was accused of witchcraft after a series of accusations from nuns of a nearby convent, who claimed that Grandier has sent several demons upon them. The case is very well documented, and the original documents of the alleged pact, written in backwards Latin and signed by all participating demons, are still preserved. The case continues to inspire art and sciences, leading to assessments of the events in light of modern sociology, psychology, and legal sciences. Alexandre Dumas' version of the events is presented here. (Carolin)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Patty Marie,

I've gotten 6 chapter draft recordings up and ready for you! This certainly is an interesting story... half comedy half horror, to a degree :hmm: Having a lot of fun with this one so far!

Section 1 is PL OK

Section 2
At 0:48-49 you've read "defatigable" instead of "indefatigable" in the first line of the second paragraph. "Urbain turned on the others, and showed himself more indefatigable in the pursuit of justice".

Section 3
This is optional. At about 19:46 n"brazier" should be pronounced http://www.dictionary.com/browse/brazier . As is, it sounds like a radical feminist stunt transposed back to the seventeenth century.

Section 4 and 5 are PL OK

Section 6
At 10:57 petinance/penitance in the very last line of the chapter " prepare themselves, by penitence and receiving the holy communion".

Thanks Patty Marie!

Sorry for my slow turnaround time :/ I've been busy getting some work things done before the new baby - who is eagerly expected next week :)

I've corrected all the PL notes and uploading new recordings up to Chapter 10.

Best!

Sections 06 through 10 are PL OK. :) This really is black humor streaked horror story. I'm resisting the temptation to go to Gutenberg and read ahead or listen to the earlier LV recording to see how it plays out.

Very glad to hear you're enjoying the reading, Patty Marie!

Sorry for the delay - our second son arrived two weeks ago and we've been adjusting to the new baby's schedule :) Everyone's doing very well and I've finally found a time slot where I can record.

The final two sections are now available for PL-ing.

I'm setting up the final part of volume 4 now - Nisida. Would you like to PL again? And, Lynne, would you like to MC again?

Best!

Congratulations! Two is definitely more complicated than twice one!
And yes, I'll be happy to MC.

YES. Would love to PL again.

I'm back in Tulsa, Oklahoma, right now frantically trying to get my condo here ready to rent again and find a new renter since my long-time former renter bought a house. No bites on my ads yet and I really didn't give myself time to get everything done before my flight to my 90-year-old parents in California Monday, but I'll get these proofed before the week is out.
