Stichus; or, The Parasite Rebuffed, by Titus Maccius Plautus (254 BCE - 184 BCE), translated by Henry Thomas Riley (1816 - 1878)
"Antipho, a wealthy and jovial old gentleman of Athens, has two daughters, Pilumena and Pamphila. They are married to two brothers, Epignomus and Pamphius, who, having run through their property in the company of idlers and Parasites, have, with the view of retrieving their fortunes, taken to merchandize [overseas trade]." The brothers have, in fact, been gone so long trying to regain their riches that Antipho is getting ready to marry off the daughters again. Will the brothers arrive back in time to save their marriages and get rid of their Parasites?
(Summary by The Play and ToddHW)
This project is complete. Audio files can be found on our Librivox catalog page at https://librivox.org/stichus-or-the-parasite-rebuffed-by-titus-maccius-plautus/

Many more Plautuses (Plauti? Plautusi?) to go. This one's next. Continue to watch out for the space saving practice in this script of starting another character's words on the same line as the previous character's words if short.

Kitty will be The Crocodile in this one as well as DPL, so watch out for all those big teeth if she is unhappy with you. Or just hungry.

Gender neutral, of course.

Although this is the title character it isn't a very big part.

Strange play, nobody is in more than 2 acts except the parasite :hmm:

I heard from Greg that he was interested in the role of the parasite Gelasimus and he asked me to claim it for him in his absence. I'll put him in the MW then, he will confirm it as soon as he can get online again.

Thank you.

Maybe it is some misdirection on the author's part. Maybe Stichus was the name of some official being satirized. Maybe there are fragments missing - it is 2500 years old.

I have recorded the fragments as best possible. If you want them done differently let me know.
