Just so I don't record it in some horribly malformed way, should I be recording all of the lines for both acts in a single file each and send those off as nobleheart_antonio_1.mp3 and nobleheart_antonio_3.mp3?
Welcome to the cast! and welcome to Librivox!

You'll record the lines for Act 1 and Act III as two separate files. Begin the file by saying "Don Antonio read by SomethingClever (or however you want to be credited.)" Leave a 3-5 seconds of silence in between all your lines and at the end of the file. Also if there are stage directions in the middle of you lines, pause and leave a few seconds of silence. (This makes it easier for me to edit the lines together later.)

Don't read the stage directions. Someone else will be doing that.

Name the file "nobleheart_antonio_1" or "nobleheart_antonio_3". When you export it in Audacity, the program will add the .mp3 part

Mary Ann Speigle is our MA. Upload your files to her folder when you complete them.

Good luck!

I've written a couple blog entries on the original production of this play that took place in February of 1850 for anyone who would like to read more about the history of this show:

Kelly,

I find this absolutely fascinating. You are quite the scholar and writer. However, I think I just found one typo in the post of the 22nd: No knew in February that I think you left out "one" between No and knew.

I have to admit that I got interrupted before I finished the second one. I just finished it and I have one question. You mention that Juanna is a "person of color". Just out of curiosity, where did you find that? I know her last name is 'Spanish' from 'Germanic' roots. Did I miss something as I read through the play?

Well, I might be taking it too far, but the play starts with Don Leon's friends, Garcia and Antonio joking about their Moorish girlfriends. It seems to me that they're hinting that Juanna might be of mixed heritage too, but Leon stops them from saying so openly. At least that's how I read it.

Kelly,

I don't know if this is the place to continue this discussion (I considered doing it via PM) but as I reread the script, other than the joking and reminiscing of past 'fun' before Leon comes on the scene, the only place I could see that that might be hinted at was the first line at the top of page 8: "Ant. The ancient blood of Vega mixed with--". But as this was in 16th Century Spain, this could just as well have been a reference to "Commoner" blood. And, as you know, the relationship with the Moors (Moriscas and Mudejars) was difficult , complicated (to say the least) and varied greatly in which part of Spain one was living as well as 'exactly' when in the 16th century it takes place. Also, since "Lewes had re-written the part of Juanna in his play to better shape the melodrama to be a star vehicle for Mowatt.", it would seem to me, as an amateur in this sort of thing, that she (Juanna) wasn't a "person of color", but that is just me.
