Hello,

I just realized I accidentally saved the files with the "#" symbol. Would you like me to resubmit the files without those?

Sorry about that.
Kim

Oh. Thank you. I had missed that, though it should have been obvious. (This is my first dramatic reading.)
No, that's okay! I'm glad I could clarify that.

Thank you!

Hm, none of these links work for me. Could you upload the files to LibriVox again and the post the links in this thread? And, yes, this time the filenames should not include the pound symbols (#). :)

Hi Twinkle,
I know I'm a little late joining the project, so it's slim pickings, but I'd still like to help. I'd like to take on the Gray Haired Woman in Ch 10 (since I'm beginning to assume that role anyway... ), and maybe Eliza in Ch 8,9 (to try to bring out the little girl in me!) Unless, of course, you have actual children to take that part. And perhaps Voice 1 or 2 in Ch 1. Since they are all very short, I can do any or all.
Thanks,
Laura
Thanks! You're welcome to all these roles, if you're willing! I'll sign you up! :)

Here are some more of Ann Putney's chapters.

I know her Chapter 3 was already marked PL OK, but as I read more about Shep I realized that I had called him "Step" at second 57in Chapter 3. That is what was written in the text given, but as the dog is Shep everywhere else, I think this must be a Gutenberg misprint. I've made the correction at second 57 and reuploaded the file. https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/understoodbetsy_annputney_03.mp3 (2:32)

I've also read in the next 3 chapters. Here they are:

Chapter 4 (1:28): https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/understoodbetsy_annputney_04.mp3

I am aware that I have left out two lines which were marked as ine in Ch. 4. That's because I think they should be Aunt Abigail's lines, though I may have misunderstood. Here's the passage:

Narrator: As she led the stupefied little girl along toward the door Aunt Abigail came after them and put a big sugar-cookie into the child's hand.
Ann: "Maybe you'll like to eat that for your recess time,"
Narrator: she said.
Ann: "I always did when I went to school."

--The first-named "she" in the first sentence is clearly Ann, who is matter-of-factly packing Betsy off to school, but the last female named before the "she" diaolgue tag is Aunt Abigail, and since she gave the cookie it makes more sense to me that she would say these lines. But let me know if you want me to read them, and I'll go back and put them in.

Chapter 6 (0.31):https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/understoodbetsy_annputney_06.mp3

Chapter 7 (3:24): https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/understoodbetsy_annputney_07.mp3

Before I go on, there's one thing I realize I need to know--is 'Lias pronounced LEE-as or LIE-as?

Yeah, I agree that the "Step" was probably a misprint. Chapter 3 is PL OK again!

I agree with you there, too. I should have colored those two lines for Abigail. Thanks for catching that quickly! :) It's fixed now.

Thank you!

It's "LIE-as." Just a reminder to everyone that there is a Pronunciation Guide in the first post -- just for the questionable words that more than one reader has to pronounce.
