I snum, Old R.F.D. Act 1 is now PL OK!ToddHW wrote: ↑April 11th, 2021, 3:59 pm
Thank you. I made the changes you suggested for 1:04, 4:38 (both), and 6:07. Snum was something new ta me; I'm old but not old enuf that snum was in my vocabulary....
I did not do the stage direction laugh. If it had been a stage direction for my line, I'da dun it so the stage direction could be replaced/removed, but here I think you'd need the direction anyway since neither Steve nor RFD have spoke recently.
If you were sobbing for old RFD in Act 1, wait until Acts 2 and 3.....
I am uncertain at this point about including the character descriptions. I think they will help our listeners, but there are some spoilers therein. If people record it, I can decide later....
Thanks, Todd
(I'll go ahead and record my character description and tack it onto the 3rd Act).
Thank you.

Nice reading, Tina! I love your voice -- it's so pleasant to listen to.TrLove wrote: ↑April 14th, 2021, 2:33 pm https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/civilservice_stagedirection_01_128kb.mp3

I read the "Characters" (adding "read by") leaving space for their names. As per notes, I also included the "Costumes and Characteristics" page, but as a single thread. Let me know if this was your vision.
Tina
I just have a few notes for Act 1:
We usually say "Stage Directions" (plural) and "read by" (you only say "by") -- so "Stage Directions ready by T.R. Love"
23:45 (p. 24):
Missing “Mrs. Jeffs”: "Mrs. Jeffs: (dusts chair and then sits)"
28:04 (p.28)
The line reads: "Steve starts, involuntarily his hand goes to his coat pocket where he placed the letter."
It is a bit confusing because there should be a pause between “starts” and “involuntarily” – "involuntarily" belongs to the second clause.
It should sound like: Steve starts. Involuntarily his hand goes to his coat pocket where he placed the letter.
But I hear: “Steve starts involuntarily. His hand goes to his coat pocket where he placed the letter.
Also “coat” is a bit unclear because the beginning of the word is so soft.
Thanx,
TJ
Thanks for the lovely compliment! Here is the edited original, ready for spot checks. Please note that I altered the file name to add the "s" to stage directions, as well.benderca wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2021, 3:31 pmNice reading, Tina! Important? Wacky Wife of the Leader of the Wonderful Woodenmen of the West? Maybe a tad less important than you think....benderca wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2021, 1:46 pm A Lady of Importance, Mrs. T. R. Jeffs, Act 2:

But, PL OK. Exactly the way she would have / should have behaved.
Thanks, Todd
Here comes Kate, thanks for your patience (but she IS a bit late in the play too... )

I think Todd had mentioned it was OK to leave it as it, but I decided to fix it. Plus, it still says "See PL Notes" in the MW so I figured that was a sign I really did need to fix itbenderca wrote: ↑March 14th, 2021, 5:55 pm I have one minor suggestion for Birdie, Act 2. Your pronunciation of "rural" sounds like "rule" and it might be confusing since you say it twice. It should be two syllables "rur-ral":
https://dictionary.cambridge.org/pronunciation/english/rural
1:38 He's a rural free deliverer, ain't he?
1:45 Does a rural free deliverer make enough money to git married on?
I'll let Todd decide if this is important enough to merit your attention.
Thanks,
TJ
Anywho, I tried my best to pronounce it correctly while keeping the accent

"Maybe she won't want a big house..." -- you started the sentence twice (and it sounds like you were planning to cut out the first start, but just missed it during editing).
Quite a range you covered in this Act - from fun and friendly to ecstatic and hopeful, to shocked, to heartbroken -- nicely done!
lol! This is fantastic, Shawn! Excellent addition to our collective "you?" -- and definitely worth the wait. Act 2 is now PL OK!Shawn510 wrote: ↑April 24th, 2021, 4:43 pm How is this?
