My word! I reckon that is exactly how Henry Lawson would want the role to be played! Brilliant!

Okay, well now that I'm finally off my six-day working weeks ... I've PLed all the voice-parts currently submitted, and I have to say, have we got a great bunch of actors!

Devorah - I think we can all see why Sister Hannah touched the hearts of all the ne'er-do-wells in Bourke. She was clearly that "Hope of Something Better" that Henry Lawson used to write about. PL OK

Kalamareader - Black Testifier, Reformed Drunkard - Such uniquely different voice-characterisations, the one suited to a preacher-man at a revival meeting, the other that of the "Awful Example" recently dried out from a six-month hangover. PL OK

Algy - Bob Brothers just as you'd expect him, and Foley too. Never let them say you're not willing to take one for the team, Algy, not after your character having been shot in the arse in the course of the DR action.  PL OK

Alan as Mitchell - Cynical excellence, we expected nothing less. Philosophical too, especially about the bar-maids, whose chief problem is that if they put a collar on the beer, the punters whinge about short measures, and if they don't, they complain that the beer's flat. PL OK

lorda - One-Eyed Bogan certainly sounds like a bloke you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of, and Dave Regan sounds as a great mate. PL OK

Todd as The Heckler - if Statler and Waldorf ever get tired of heckling Fozzie, the Muppet Show will know who to turn to. PL OK

Cheers,
Chris

And we have a new short story in the Collection!

"Macquarie's Mate".

Colour-coded script here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Xv1DBG5SJthMILre57pwIqY6-emMfT-eazxMKd-PZ4A/edit?usp=sharing

Gender-neutral. All are welcome to "bloke it up". :D

The Awful Example - "The veriest wreck in the drink-fiend's clutch", the role to be brought to life by alanmapstone.

Box-o’-Tricks - drinker in the shanty. open

Barcoo - tough, pugnacious bruiser. Algy Pug

“Sally” Thompson - drinker in the shanty. open

Stiffner the Shanty-Keeper - so named because of the "quality" of the whisky he serves. adr6090

Macquarie - absent friend of The Awful Example lorda

Somebody open

Narrator - Son of the Exiles

You certainly can! Only a few words, but highly significant and also the denouement of course.

Thanks Algy! I liked that way you incorporated just a suggestion of having been on the turps for a while into Barcoo's aggressiveness.

PL OK.

Hi lorda!

Ah, the vagaries of English not to mention Celtic pronunciation. My own surname is Celtic Cornish and from an early age I learned to give spelling and pronunciation at the same time.

In this case, it sounds more like you're saying the Irish Maguire rather than the Scots Gaelic Macquarie.

If you wouldn't mind taking another try at it, here is a sound file I've recorded with the pronunciation of the word "Macquarie": https://librivox.org/uploads/mightyfelix/Macquarie_pronunciation.mp3
