Aladdin, Or, The Wonderful Lamp by Adam Oehlenschläger (1779 - 1850). Translated by Theodore Martin (1816 - 1909)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/aladdin-or-the-wonderful-lamp-by-adam-oehlenschlaeger/
This is the story of Aladdin in dramatic verse. It is the classic tale of the poor tailor's son who wins a princess, with the help of some very powerful magic. (Devorah Allen)
    1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a role to record, simply look at point 5. below at the roles. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which role you would like to read. Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/aladdinorwonder00oehlgoog/
    5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

Casting will be gender neutral (with the exception of the two birds in Act 8). If you are playing a small part, you may claim other small roles if you like, as long as they do not appear in the same act. "Large" roles, that is, roles that may not be overlapped, are: Aladdin, Morgiana, Gulnare, Soliman, Vizir, Noureddin, Spirit of the Lamp, Spirit of the Ring, and Hindbad.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Now accepting claims! Help bring this fantastic tale to life!

The subtitle of the work is "A Dramatic Poem - In Two Parts." Each part consists of five acts, making this quite an undertaking. You should also be aware that almost all of it is in verse, and there are even several choruses! The formatting is fairly terrible, so please be sure to read everything around your part carefully so as not to miss anything!

if it's ok that the spirit of the lamp is female, then I'll volunteer for the role (reminds me of that old TV show  )

The Vizir is a large enough role that I don't think it should be doubled up with another. I know how much you like playing a minstrel. :) Do you still want the Vizir, or would you rather take an assortment of small roles?

Hi Devorah
How about I take Mustapha in act 1 and the Minstrel in act 9? Later I could fill in some minor roles in the middle acts.
I seem to be getting a reputation 😺

Devorah -

I'm finding lines for the Spirit of the Ring in Act 2 (Page 41), Act 7 (Pages 203-204), Act 8 (Pages 219-221) and Act 10 (page 296), but I find no lines for the Spirit of the Ring in Act 5. I see lots of lines for multiple Spirits of the Lamp and the Spirit of Water in Act 5, but not the ring. :help:

Doesn't Adam Gottlob Oehlenschläger look like he would fit well into a boyband? He'd have to lose the sideburns and would need a nickname, like A.G.
