Thanks, Alan! I clearly have spent too much time pondering family relationships in this book...

Revised version is PL OK.

Thanks again,

Thanks, Kevin! What an amicable minister. The kids sure picked the right person to go to with their crisis of faith. :D

Mr. Marwood is PL OK.

Fantastic, Nemo! You really bring Mr. Campbell to life. At first a selfish old miser, but then he comes around to be a generous and even likable man. Nice!
Mr. Campbell is PL OK.

Thanks, Sparkles!

I see this is your first Librivox project. We need to set you up a profile page.

"If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog."

When recording, start the first chapter with "Aunt Janet read by... ." Please read only your lines and leave about 3 seconds in between each of your lines. Please record each chapter in a separate file.

Thanks, TJ

Hi Kim!

Thanks for reading the part of Mrs. Ray. There are a couple of problems with your recording settings.

The bitrate should be 128 kbps and the recording should have a constant bitrate rather than a variable bitrate (VBR) - your recording is 122kbps (variable).

Also the volume at 80.2 is too soft and fall outside the target range of 86-92 dB.

The best strategy would be to download the Librivox Checker and drag your file into its window to see if your settings are correct:

Very nice reading!
I think I fixed it! :D https://librivox.org/uploads/triciag/storygirl_mrsray_29.mp3

I tried to do a stage whisper in chapter 5 when Peter is whispering - is that correct or is it better to just read it normally? Also I'm very much not a voice actor, so any and all CC would be appreciated. :D

Thanks, Julian! I love your portrayal of Peter!

Chapters 3 & 4 have a rather loud buzzing sound in the background. Did you noise clean? I was able to noise clean your files and they sound good, but it may sound even better if you noise clean the original files before converting them to mp3. It would be good if you noise cleaned all your future files as well.

I use the following noise cleaning settings (and I've found them to work well):
Noise Reduction (dB): 12 dB
Sensitivity: 6.00
Frequency Smoothing (bands): 3

A setting of 12 is a moderate setting (to use if you have moderate noise) - it doesn't cut out all the background noise, but you also don't get a strange echo in your voice.

For reference:

Aside from the noise cleaning, everything else is PL OK for Chapters 3-5. I really like the whisper tone and little chuckle. And Peter is quite a story teller himself -- nice!

Thanks, Lydia!

Yes, Sara is there in Chapter 5, but she is quite quiet. She doesn't even cry as she usually does... :D And she goes off with the Story Girl when the others are laughing, so she doesn't even laugh. Thanks for catching that -- I've made corrections.

TJ - I always noise clean my recordings and I couldn't hear any buzzing in these when I uploaded them. I had a listen back through speaker (rather than headphones) and could hear it quite clearly - not sure what the difference is but maybe that's what I should do in future. Hopefully these are ok now.
