Galahad Jones by Arthur Adams (1872 - 1936).

Dramatised by Australian playwright Arthur Adams from his book of the same name, this is labeled "A Comedy with a Tragic Tang". The author claims there is an alternative ending he wrote much against his will, but he declines to print it.
( ToddHW)
  • This is the last of the three plays by Australian playwright Arthur Adams. Bittersweet.
Gender neutral. And Kitty is again going to take good care of us as our DPL.

    1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://ia802701.us.archive.org/31/items/threeplaysforaus00adamiala/threeplaysforaus00adamiala.pdf or here is the archive link which we worked from for the other two plays: https://archive.org/details/threeplaysforaus00adamiala/page/50 - this should open up for everybody.
    5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Is anyone else having trouble reading the source text? The file downloads OK but just displays blank pages. I have tried it on 2 different devices.

Can I read the stage directions, if you don't mind having a British rather than an Australian accent?

Great to see that one of the characters is a Maggs. Not a name I come across very often, apart from family.

Thank you.

In the first play in this book of three plays (which we already did), one of the main characters is named J. Charteris Maggs.

Thanks, Todd

I'd like to tentatively put in a claim for Pearl, but I haven't been able to see the play itself yet. When I've had a chance to scan it over, I may want to relinquish her. Like Alan, I'm having trouble with this PDF. Can you check the link, Todd? It usually takes us straight to internet archive's web page, rather than being a download like this is.

Well, here is that Lothario of the Lamb-Cutlets:

https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/galahadjones_butcher_2_128kb.mp3
https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/galahadjones_butcher_3_128kb.mp3
https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/galahadjones_butcher_4_128kb.mp3

Now to see who fancies herself as his paramour, described in the text as "the buxom Pearl".

I am going to be soooo bummed if, in the spirit of gender-neutrality casting, Algy Pugg takes on this role.

Cheers,
Chris

 that would be a treat...but it looks like Devorah will save you from Algy. Let's hope the role is to her liking. ;)
