Quick question. As the Narrator, should I read the Dramatis Personae?

How about the other front matter? That is:
THE GONDOLIERS
OR

THE KING OF BARATARIA

Libretto by William S. Gilbert

Music by Arthur S. Sullivan
and
ACT I
The Piazzetta, Venice

ACT II
Pavilion in the Palace of Barataria

(An interval of three months is supposed to elapse between Acts I
and II)

DATE
1750

You don't need to read the DP - that's where the voice credits go. Yes please read the double title section - that was the fashion at the time. Then skip the summary and go straight to the full setting description please, where it says "Act 1" in big letters.

I've posted the recording of Narrator, Act I. It's at https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/gondoliers_narrator_1.mp3 , with a length of 5m41s.

I'd like to get a general check and any style comments before doing Act II. (I know there may be additional comments as the project progresses.) Thanks!

This project doesn't have a separate DPL, it's just me doing both BCing and PLing. I will PL this when I can, but I'm at work today (Thursday) and have a very busy weekend ahead with hosting my husband's birthday and sister's baby shower. I'll try to have a quick listen today, otherwise it will be Monday.

I'm also not a technical person, so I can't help you with comments about echo or audio engineering - it will be a text check only.

If you want more feedback you are welcome to repost the link in the listener's forum - they tend to be able to help more with settings and audio effects, noise cleaning, etc.

Thanks for the comments, Elizabby. You know, I'll just go ahead and record Act II. It won't take that long. And it's all probably fine -- I'm just insecure.

Enjoy your weekend!

It's pretty good! The text appears to be all there, but there are quite of lot of missed edits and repeats (hand claps, etc). If you can edit those out then I think it will all be PL OK!

The sound and volume are fine, I didn't think it was too echo-y!

Excellent work! There's just one part which was confusing in the way it was formatted:

@2:51 the Narrator is supposed to say "beating time". The "Oncely, twicely" bit is the Duke's line.

At the very end, you need to include the full outro, so as well as "End of Act 2" you also need to add "End of The Gondoliers, by WS Gilbert."

That's it! Everything else was perfect! After you are done editing here, can I interest you in coming across to my dramatic reading project? The Railway Children needs a few more male voices!

Thanks for the fast reply. Here's Act I, with the corrections you indicated:

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/gondoliers_narrator_1_version02.mp3
Length: 4:58

A couple of notes.

1) I repeated text when it was repeated in the script. (I cut out the second occurrences.)
2) I didn't realize editing out errors was the reader's responsibility. I'll do that from now on.

Thanks again! On to Act II's revisions....
