A bit more for Phyllis in the first paragraph of chapter 5:
There was a wild wind that drove flocks of dark purple clouds across the sky “like herds of dream-elephants,” as Phyllis said.

Beth, near the beginning of chapter 7 ...
The way he smiled when he “said his English,” was, Bobbie felt, “just too sweet for anything.”

You have "said his English" highlit to be spoken by the Russian gentleman, but shouln't it be Bobby?

I interpreted "said his English" to be an expression of the Russian gentleman, rather than Bobbie?

Although now you mention it, I suppose it could read either way.

The Russian gentleman has already been recorded, so unless you feel strongly about it, I'll probably leave it as is.

It's your choice; after all, I'm just leaving a gap.

But when I read it I just felt that the Russian gentleman wouldn't say "said his" about himself.
