Hahaahaha! Chris, I can definitely see you as being divided equally among Larry, Curly and Mo! And don’t forget Harpo Max too, in which case you would now descend into zero posts, due to your mute status. Jimmy Stewart is a good middle ground, though.... Yup.

And that, so long as the new house is built and the Dave/Lily stipend keeps coming, a capable woman running the establishment is far better than an amiable knucklehead.
yes, granted, but Lily's mom is of course hatching her ingenious plan to take over for Dave (why do you think she let Lily marry him ? ) you must admit that she is a much sharper knife in any drawer ;)

OK, here's the narration for the first 3 sections. I wasn't sure what to call this, so please check the intro carefully. In the end I went for "Section 1" as the title of the first chapter, left space for the DP and then started the text with "Chapter 10 - Dave Brings Home a Wife". I thought it would be too confusing to start with "Chapter 10" because then everyone will think they've tuned in halfway through. The next sections are "Section 2, Chapter 11" etc.

Also, I can't really tell from the MW - will there be a separate DP for each chapter or just one at the start of Section 1? I've currently assumed just one for everyone at the start of Section 1.

great start, Beth ! Wow Dave and Lily really have a hard life with Dad and the family. :?

All three chapters beautifully read and no errors or missing bits I could find. PL ok.

Only Section 3 is way below the accepted volume, at only 83 dB  I'll make a note in the MW for Chris to amplify when he is editing it all together.

Thanks !

Oops! Sorry about that! I'm usually doing two rounds of amplification - I do a second one after cutting out all the coughing! I must have missed the second one on this file.

Section 4 narration! It seems longer but there's a lot of gaps for dialogue in it.

Concur with you on all points, Beth. :). Just the one DP at the start makes sense.

Great narrating too :)

And the last two sections!

Just one comment, from my reading of the text, isn't "Young Regan" the same character as "Jimmy Regan"? In the usual Australian usage "Young Regan" would be the son (whose name is Jimmy) and "Old Regan" would be his father. (If Todd took up the extra lines, then cowguy02 could take Joe.)

Also, in Chapter 16 there are some lines for Mother which are not coloured - I haven't read them, but it might be worth changing as Mother Rudd hasn't been recorded yet.

Thanks for the submissions, Beth!

I guess it's possible re the Regans. The reason I thought they were two different characters was based on their different style of speech. Note the different treatment of the word "was". Young Regan's speech seems like a kid sassing Dad Rudd, whereas Jimmy Regan seems of an age with Dave, and is described as "the wild harum-scarum of the district". I'm not sure he'd run from a fight with Dad Rudd.

I get the impression that Old Regan and Young Regan have the same first name, but that Jimmy has a different name to his father Old Regan and his brother Young Regan.

“I wuz jus’ wunderin’,” young Regan answered, “if there wuz anythin' th' matter wi' you; an' if this is a private asylum y' puttin' up fur y'self t' get into when it's finished.”

“Won't stay long,” Jimmy rejoined, speaking in a loud voice, and leaning against the wall, “got to go round to old Gray yet to see if he'll stump out the couple of days he owes me brother for thrashing. But what I've come for is the loan of a nag. . . . Can y' lend us one to go to town on to-morrer, Dave?”

Dave required some time to consider, and Jimmy rattled on— “Saw y' flyin' along from the railway this evenin', Dave, but you were too high up to look my way. . . . Who was the ol' girl with all the ribbons and things on that you was buckin' up t' in the cart?”

But I could be wrong.

Chris

Oh, I'm sure you are right - it was just a thought I had as I was reading the narration. Looking at the book as a whole there appear to be two Regan brothers, Jimmy and Tommy.

I've actually finished recording and am in the editing process. I caught this line that was not colored:
“Well, it's not a good enough one for them, Father,”
Mother said, persuasively, “not nearly—not when we have
so much money, and you can so well afford to pay for a
better one.”

Did you notice any others?

Thanks!

No that was it - just the two lines at the start of the chapter. Sounds like you've got it all under control!
