Here's 7. I had to record the song twice, because I overlooked that there were a couple of other places where the words were different. So the second time, I figured I'd go ahead and print the music so I could scratch out and write in the correct words where necessary. But then the mic picked up the sound of my page turns, in spite of my best efforts. Also, the first version was more tone-deaf. But let me know what you think.

As I am travelling rather a lot in the next 6 weeks, I might not be able to do much more until February. But I'll continue whenever I have time (and when my throat has recovered from this silly Psammead voice I insist on doing).

Thanks so much Rob - Psammead chapters 1-3 are all PL OK! And kudos to you on the voice - after the 11 minutes of chapter 2 I had to go have a cup of tea and that was just listening to it!

Thanks Peter! This is a lovely reading - very expressive and really brings out the meaning and wit of Nesbit's writing!

Just one other comment - I've realised this reading is going to have a very long Cast List, so I think I'll put it in a separate file. That means I'll need another "intro/outro" for the Voice Credits and Dedication file. Could you please read the Dedication as well? I didn't put it in the script, but it is in the main book link in the first post.

I can make you a script if you like, but your recording would need to be:
- LV disclaimer (the long version, as this will be the first file)
- Dedication: To Dr Wallis Budge of the British Museum as a small token of gratitude for his unfailing kindness and help in the making of it
- I don't mind if you say Dramatis Personae or Cast List, narrated by... (just your own voice credit)
- End of Cast List.

I think the whole file will be about 30 second when you record it, but by the time we add in all the voice credits it will be about 5 minutes long!

Thanks, Beth; I'm enjoying reading it. I hadn't realised what an unpleasant character the Psammead was; it may be to do with the Edwardian/Victorian impressions of governesses/nurses. After all, Mary Poppins in the books is similarly unpleasant to the children there.

So true. Those Victorians didn’t seem to have any trouble suspending disbelief at the idea of Ruth the nursery-maid becoming a “piratical maid-of-all-work”.

I'm glad that the children didn't manage to walk off with the tribe's amulet. It would have felt like a callous piece of thievery ... especially when the Psammead had prevented the tribe's headman from giving his warriors the amulet's courage ... and when so many of the tribe were likely to have been killed by the invaders.

.... Oh, and thanks for copying my reading credit into the Cast List file; I forgot.

I don't know whether it's simply a problem with my display, but the google doc for chapter six doesn't seem to show any highlight for the Babylonian queen (in the last couple of pages of the chapter).
