great to have you on board Leanne :) Since Todd is probably not up yet, I'll sign you up for now. Have fun playing a serious young girl, freshly out of the convent

first in :) Todd, I've got some work for you...

I tried to make Mrs Cortelyon quite posh and dignified, which won't hold her back from engaging in a sort of bitch-fight with Mrs Tanqueray  there was tension in that Act, I can tell you. I seriously suspect Mrs Cortelyon wanted to become the second Mrs Tanqueray herself

working on the next act now...

Could I claim the role of Lady Orreyed please?

This will be my first Librivox Play, but I've done radio plays before.

Thanks,
TJ

Great. The first posting has all the info about naming and posting the file. Be sure to leave gaps between lines in your final file - 5 seconds perhaps - so I can cut the lines apart as I assemble the master files.

Enjoy!

Thanks, Todd

Here's the first Paula file, 6:12 long. I wasn't sure what the voice credit was supposed to say, so I've given you both versions of the name.

Act 2 is also recorded, but I'm still playing around with how to say "Mrs Cortelyon" for maximum annoyance! ;)

oh-ho Mrs Tanqueray is already in ! Excellently done Beth. You play her very cheerful in the first act, so this will make an enormous impact on the audience when she becomes much more morose, jealous and vindictive in the subsequent acts. But already here, the first signs of that side of her character are there in her suicide remark. I think you played it out to perfection.

Also no errors or missing parts, so this is PL ok, without a doubt.

haha, I bet our dialogue will be study in bitchiness  Looking forward to that. (well we already practiced with Cleopatra and Octavia, remember ?)

Hey, super speedy PL!

Yes, I read the play and decided it is a journey from the eager girl who dreams of hostessing an upper class dinner party, through disappointment and bitterness to ultimate despair. So Act 1 is cheerful and hopeful, Act 2 is more edgy and angry with jealousy, and the vindictive streak starting to appear. Act 3 is mostly bitter and cynical, Act 4 desperation and despair.

The main challenge for me is going to be keeping the sound levels even! Act 2 has major variations already, which makes the volume very uneven.

this sounds like a plan

as character studies go, this drama has plenty of discussion opportunities.

Here's the third Paula file, 16:51 long. The second act was a long one, still in editing.

argh by the ending of this scene I so despised Paula. Why on earth did she have to tell and ruin Ellean's happiness ? While in the beginning with this awful Orreyed woman she sounds much nicer than I would have pictured her. Poor Paula chooses her friends wrongly. :?

excellently and flawlessly read again. Only the volume is quite low in some parts (only 81.1 overall), especially at the beginning you are merely a whisper. You might amplify, or I make a note in the MW.

Other than that only one tiny thing:

> at 14:28-14:33: „I came across the key of the escritoire the other day in an old purse!” – repeat can be cut out to make it easier for Todd

No other errors.

Repeat cut out, compression settings changed. New file is a bit shorter at 16:45.

And here's Act 2. I tried to keep the volume reasonable!
