ChuckW wrote: July 8th, 2018, 8:21 am So do I just read every first line by the chorus or both?
I believe what we want is both Chorus members speaking together, every time it says chorus. So you'd read the whole thing, not just the first line. But I may be misunderstanding. You can wait for Beth's reply, if you like, to be sure. She's probably sleeping now.
No, that makes sense. Thanks.

Just listened to the template. This is more difficult than I thought. I really hope I can do this.

Everything for the male chorus please - it's supposed to be combined voices. Also please give me a full repeat of the whole chorus or line where it says "etc" exactly as you would if singing it.

Male Chorus B appears to be open...at least it used to be. I'd like to claim it.

Many thanks,

Philip

Hi Beth:

I'm looking through Act I (pulling the Chorus lines out before reading). I really appreciate the template--extremely helpful.

But to my reading, it appears that there were a few chorus lines overlooked. I start with the idea that I have misread the script. But I just wanted to double check:

There are two bunches of lines interspersed with dialog (what I've done below is put the lines that are in the template in normal script and the lines which I think are missing in blue italics

Don't hesitate
Your choice to name,
A dreadful fate
You'll suffer all the same.

ALL. The Japanese equivalent for Hear, Hear, Hear!

ALL. Hail, Nanki-Poo!

ALL. Yes, yes, he'll do!

Ah, yes!
He loves himself with passion tenderer still!

NEXT GROUP OF LINES:

May all good fortune prosper you,
May you have health and riches too,
May you succeed in all you do!
Long life to you—till then!

CHORUS. Why, who is this whose evil eyes
Rain blight on our festivities?
CHORUS. Go, leave thy deadly work undone!
CHORUS. Away, away! ill-favoured one!

CHORUS. If she's thy bride, restore her place,
Oh fool, oh blind, oh rash, oh base!

Once I get these read, I'll move on to Act 2.

Thanks for your help.

I'm sure you are right - I was in a bit of a rush when I made the template, and as I'm sure you've noticed the formatting is horrible!

I just quickly put up the template more as an indication of timing, because we had some problems in the editing of "Iolanthe" because the male chorus in particular had very different tempos.

Keep going! You're doing a better job than I did! ;)

Beth:

Thanks for your help...so what is the Japanese equivalent for "hear hear hear" or do you just want the line read "Japanese equivalent for hear hear hear"

Ever forward and many thanks,

Philip

That's the line - please read as is!

It's hilarious when the whole chorus sings this together! If you haven't seen The Mikado, there's a great version on YouTube with Eric Idle (from Monty Python) in it!

Beth:

I vaguely remember being subjected to this piece as a dramatic exercise in jr. high school and remember being totally confused by it (which is probably why I've not availed myself of the opportunities I've had to see it). O
I'm no longer confused by it which means I've not only aged, but gotten a little wiser.

This looks like the kind of thing one should just let go and have fun with--so in that spirit--onward!

Many thanks,

Philip

If it helps, Philip, I've been having a lot of trouble figuring out what to record myself... :?

I might just wait until you're PL OK and then use your file as my template.

Thanks folks! I'll prioritize PLing that file then - but Act 2 is much easier you'll be glad to know! In the usual Gilbert and Sullivan style, Act 2 is mostly the principals sorting out their problems, then the chorus appears for the big finale and that's it!

Thanks Philip, this is perfect! It's not an easy read (especially the formatting in the finale) but you got it all, well done!

WiltedScribe wrote: June 14th, 2018, 6:07 pm Hi Beth,

Here are Nanki-Poo's sections:

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/mikado_nankipoo_1.mp3
https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/mikado_nankipoo_2.mp3

I recorded many 'All' lines, as well, but probably too many (it was hard to tell if/when my character was on stage). You can use them or discard them if needed. Hope this will bring the play to a close (unless the male choruses are still necessary).
Many thanks! Both Acts of Nanki-poo are PL OK! There are some extra chorus lines, but always easier to cut than to record more, so that's all good! We are fully cast now, so close to finishing this one! :9:
