Hi all,

I am new to LV and can't set up my microphone. Perhaps it is a sign... It took me days to even manage to post on a forum.

So I am offering to do the PL for this project. I guess I have to find out what that entails. I may be technologically disabled, but I am an ace academic editor and proofreader. I'm guessing this will be a whole lot more fun than my day job.

While I do the quick PL crash course, let me know if you still need a PL here.

Thanks so much!
Dorothy

Dorothy,

Great to have you along. I see you've volunteered to DPL the Caribbean project as well.

For this one, we are looking for "special" prooflistening because it is a dramatic reading. Each person is reading the lines of some character in the book, so it's critical that the PLer make sure all the lines are there! It may be several months before the editor starts putting the bits together and there is nothing worse than having to chase down a reader for missing lines.

So, start with "standard" as outlined on the Wiki (see the Caribbean post) and then read along with the text and note any missing lines.

This is a big project, so how about if you try your hand at PLing some of the sections marked "ready for PL" and see how it goes? Once you get a feel for it, you can decide if it is something you want to take on as the Dedicated Proof Listener, or if you would rather drop in and help out on occasion as our lovely friend Linny is doing.

I have completed PLing Section 14. All is good. How do I update the Magic Window to reflect that?

Usually only the DPL can update MW. If you PLed some section, post your result in the thread. Something like "Section NN : PL OK."

Thanks Dorothy.

I've updated the MW to show section 14 (Arkady Ivanovitch Svidrigaïlov - Ch 21) is PL OK.

I forgot to mention, but on dramatic readings and plays, the BC will often move the sections around in the Magic Window to get the open ones toward the top (and visible to potential readers) and the PL OK ones grouped together with the chapter they relate to . . . This will cause the sections to renumber. So it's helpful to give the character name/chapter because it may not always be section 14.
