So, I've uploaded two chapter 9s for Razumihin, one in a casual ('bad'?) Russian accent, the other in my native, if somewhat emphasized, American accent. Depending on which one you prefer, I will record future chapters with that accent. (This was a relatively short speaking section for Razzy; I'd forgotten how much he loved to speak on end about things. I figured it would be less time-wasting for me to try out the different accents with a smaller section, than to upload a heavy-text section and then have to redo it.)

I prefer the second one, though, the natural accent. I figure for works in translation there's no need for particular accents except where a character is noted to have one (like Amalia Ivanovna's German accent), and for a huge role like Razumihin, it could get distracting over the long term. What do you think?

P.S. If I may make a small suggestion for future recordings, though, would you mind leaving a bit more space between lines?

My thought was that, since Raz is not the main character, even as a secondary character he could get away with an accent, as he could add some flair. Personally, I like to think that the accent could make him more loveable, if done right; however, my worry is that the accent won't be good -- I don't want to use so much emphasis as to produce a caricature of an accent, but I don't want it to be too light that someone will think that I tried and failed. And he talks a lot, so I could understand how, in the long-term, if it sounded like I failed, then it would be too distracting, and I would need to go with my native accent. I'm okay giving it up; I'm just explaining my thoughts on it, since you asked.

tl;dr: I'm good with the native accent if you're more comfortable with it. I'm giving you the executive-decision button to press as you like. (Just know that any time a Russian name springs forth, that accent may rear its head.

Sure! I thought they might have been pretty close this time. (I think I have a nasty habit of over-editing my breaths and background noises, which I'm sure causes more trouble for general editors.)

PL Okay other than volume being too loud. Each passage should be within the volume limits of 89 +/- 3db

Lots of breaths in the long passage starting at 50s. It sounds like you may have a slight cold. Can you edit those out? (I copy in "quiet space" from another part of the recording in order to make the timing of the phrases correct as I have a loud breath.)

Possibly a longer break before "End of Part 1, Chapter 1" at the end of the reading.
I haven't checked the time spacing before or after the reading as that'll happen at editing.

Thanks, Kim! I'm listening now, and while I see what you mean, I think most of the breaths are sort of strategic and contribute to the acting. This might be something for Zach to keep in mind for the next one, though.
