A low-tech version is to take pantyhose/tights and stretch them over a hanger or embroidery hoop other such frame, and make sure it's about 1" from the mic (not touching it).

I had horribly plosive "P"s before I got this. Now I don't need to edit at all - those pops are caught in the screen before the mic hears them!
Thanks! I'll look into that.

AprilWalters wrote:Just checking if my pronunciation etc. is ok for these placenames, especially. (I see for Eugenie, she mostly speaks people-names, which have the pronunciation guide to help. ) Also I wanted to make sure that I was uploading the proper FLAC file for you!

https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/montecristo_teresa_36.flac (0:38)
https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/montecristo_teresa_33.flac (0:42) -- I feel a bit like the WhenHarryMetSally faking-it scene, with all of the enthusiastic "Yes!"es in that one.

For Eugenie, should I list both first and last name when doing my "read by" line?

I'll PL them later today:)
Hehehe! Yeah, I know
Use the whole name, please

In chap 3, at 01:20 and 02:24, you misspronounce "Edmond Dantes", and at 01:28 and 01:44 "Fernand"
Listen to the pronounciation guide in the first post, you'll find them both there.
At 02:41, you missed a line, "To-day the preliminaries, to-morrow or next day the ceremony! You are in a hurry, captain!"
At 03:28 I hear "pharon" instead of "Pharaon"

In chapter 4, at 5:08, misspronounciation of "Edmond" and at 6:19 "Fernand"

In chapter 5, at 1:16, there is a strange backround noise tha ruins one of the lines , sound a bit like a plane?
At 1:45 there is a line I coulored wrong, sorry about that, so you're missing ""Hold your tongue, you fool!—what should you know about it?—why, you were drunk"
At 5:02 there's a car honk or something in the background
At 5:34 the line is "The Hypocrite", but you said "Hypocrite", and it sounds a bit like you're saying it to Morrel
AT 6:13 and 8:15 I hear "Pharon", instead of "Pharaon"
6:25 missponounciation of Edmund

Sorry to be so strict, but you are doing a great job reading it:)
Here's the updated files...I think I got them all.

For Chapters 3 & 5, I got the pronuncation for Pharaon from here: http://www.forvo.com/word/pharaon/ because I didn't see it elsewhere. I re-recorded it to sound a bit more French.

Danglars Chapter 28 is PL OK

In chapter 46, at 01:30 you slightly mispronounce "Champs Elysees", see here: http://www.forvo.com/word/champs_elys%C3%A9es/#fr
at 6:36, there's a blip on the recording, could you re-do "I must confess to you, count,"
At 8:05 and 8.16 you misspronounce "Baroness Danglars". See here: http://uploads.librivox.org/maryannspiegel/montecristopronounce/BaronessDanglars.mp3
At 9:21, here Im a bit unsure myself. "viscount" in English is said like this: http://www.forvo.com/word/viscount/#en. I couldn't find a pronounciation in French, but it sounds right, so I wouldn't bother

I will do the rest later today:)

Danglars PL chapter 47:
00:07 - Pronouncing "Baroness" wrong
02:00 - Pronounciation of Eugenie, see here: http://uploads.librivox.org/maryannspiegel/montecristopronounce/Eugenie.mp3

Chapter 51, 62, 63and 64 are PL OK

Chapter 65:
00:15 - Pronouncing "Baroness" wrong

Chapter 66
00:35 and 03:21 - Pronounciation of "Trieste", see here: http://no.forvo.com/word/trieste/#it (the italian one)
00:56 - Pronounciation of "Manfredi". Couldn't find one with just that name, but listen here: http://www.forvo.com/word/massimo_manfredi/#it
07:00 - Repeat of this sentence: "he will want a crown and an immense fortune."
07:05 - Pronounciation of "Ma foi", see here: http://no.forvo.com/word/ma_foi/#fr
07:15 and 07:34 - Pronounciation of "Albert", see here: http://uploads.librivox.org/maryannspiegel/montecristopronounce/Albert.mp3

Chapter 70 is PL OK:)

I forgot one thing, from volume 2, you are supposed to say "Baron Danglars read by" instead of Monsieur. If you could just remember to do that in the rest of the chapters, that's fine:)

Also, thanks for picking up on the lines that were coloured wrong!

Waitor, Daughter of Come de Salviuex and Officer 1 are all PL OK, but if I were you, I would look into where you are recording. There is a metally "tang" to it, which can happen if you noiseclean too hard, but also if you have at least two walls close to you, creating a sort of echo.

Teresa chapter 33

You are missing several lines at the start, you probably just skipped over them:
""'Teresa, what were you thinking of as you danced opposite the young Countess of San-Felice?'—'I thought,' replied the young girl, with all the frankness of her nature, 'that I would give half my life for a costume such as she wore.'
"'And what said your cavalier to you?'—'He said it only depended on myself to have it, and I had only one word to say.'

00:24 - A thunk of some sort in the background, ruining the line

Chapter 36
At the start, could you add "Peaseant girl read by(your chosen name)"

Otherwise, it's good:) And nice recording:D

Thanks -- I had a hard time isolating which red texts were the right ones, which is probably why I skipped some. I'll fix that!

Yeah, there's a lot of people in that chapter, so it's not very strange.

I admit I've never read this story at all, so I'm glad you're very familiar with it. It will be fun to listen to it, since it's one of those classics I've always meant to get around to.

I will be working on recording and sending HAIDEE's parts soon. I am currently re-reading the book. I wanted to refresh myself on it, in order to better play my part.

Here's Teresa again:

(I didn't hear the "thunk" and now the timing's all messed up since I added those missed lines - if you could just tell me which line to replace, I'll do it. Thanks!)
