Ben Hur by Lew Wallace (1827 - 1905).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/ben-hur-dramatic-reading-by-lew-wallace/
Three men meet mysteriously in the desert, all led by a mysterious voice. Years later, a young Jewish man seeking revenge finds himself face to face with the King who is to come. (summary to be revised before cataloging) ( Adele de Pignerolles)
In this dramatic reading of the classic epic Ben Hur, rediscover the wonder of three wise men who travel through the wilderness together. Thirty years later, Judah ben Hur accidentally looses a tile upon the head of the Roman governor and is sentenced to the galleys for life. When he escapes, he is caught up in his thirst for revenge against his accuser, Messala, and his search for the Messiah of his people, the King who is to come. As Judah learns more about this King, however, he begins to realize that the kingdom he is searching for may not be found in what he can see and the revenge he is seeking may not be found in the way that he expects. 1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/2145
PLEASE read from the Google Docs linked in the MW..
    5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Book 2 narrator reporting for duty! :)
Can I be Tirzah, too? She doesn't speak until the later books.

I'd love it if you could be Tirzah, but she has a long speech in Book 2, Chapter 6. If you want you could narrate a different book. Book 6 only has 6 chapters, or Book 7 has 5. Some of the others are longer.

So everyone can claim sections before the MW's up, here's the DP: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B419SsV_TJoXVE5rVFlTSWcyX2s/view?usp=sharing. Major roles are gender specific, but anything small is neutral. So claim away and claim lots! :)

Okay, I must not have checked the text closely enough. I'll narrate book 3, if that's okay :)

That would be great! If you don't mind, when you do Jesus, could you do your lowering/special effects to make it sound more like a man? Thanks!

Adele,

Does your section count include one section for each chapter that each reader appears in? I fear that putting multiple links in a given section will make it difficult to see the status of individual parts and to determine what is done and ready to edit as things move along.

Is there a limit on the number of sections in the MW? I would have thought with a book as long as this you might run into problems.

There isn't a limit of section numbers in the MW, but there is on the final product.

To explain
Archive can not handle more than 255 sections in a project (for those who wonder why - because their counting hole will only hold the binary number for 255 , 256 needs a bigger hole)

but as the files that this project sends to Archive will be the number of chapters plus cast list, introduction at the most it should be fine

I counted one section per character per book. There are 8 books, so 8 sections for a character that's in every book. That way there won't be too many links in one section. If I did one section per character per chapter then I would be well over 400 sections. The finished number of chapters will be less than 100, I think. I was thinking of color-coding the links or the notes section (like I'm doing in my other DR) so the PL OK ones are green and PL notes ones are red, etc. Would that work?

I was told 225 was the maximum, but I think that's the finished max. The current Divine Comedy DR has around 500 sections in the MW!

I've thought about the too-many-links and too-many-sections-to-be-manageable problems and went with the first one rather then the second, because many characters would have only one link. Even the largest role would only have about 10 links at the most in one section. If there's a better way to do it that would be great!

Hi, would you assign me one or more parts? I'd like to join in on the whole thing, so if there is something that's a part of all of it, I'd love that, but I haven't actually read it, so I have little knowledge of the characters
