Dear All
I have now set up the next collection of One Act Plays here

viewtopic.php?f=28&t=54802

Please go over to the thread for the collection if you wish to BC a one act play. I am limiting the collection to 10 plays as the last collection has taken 15 months to complete so I do not want to go beyond that as it becomes too big to manage.

Before you sign up please read the whole of the first thread so you understand how it all works and what you are responsible for as the BC to your own play.

I'm posting this here in case somebody else would like to BC it.

Worke for cvtlers; or, A merry dialogue between sword, rapier and dagger, possibly by Thomas Heywood.

It's 11 pages, and the text of the play begins here:
https://archive.org/stream/workeforcvtlerso00heywuoft#page/36/mode/2up

I got quite excited about it until I learned that the date of death of the editor, Albert Forbes Sieveking, was 1951, which means it isn't PD for me. Perhaps fencers/armourers/combat historians elsewhere would be keen?

Hi! :D
It looks like there haven't been any Shakespearean Dialogues collections for a couple of years. Is anyone interested in starting a third one? I don't think I have the time to BC one right now, though maybe when my two plays are complete (they're both getting there) I might if someone would help me out. I think the last collections were pre-selected dialogues, with a different theme for each collection. I'm not sure I know enough Shakespeare to select enough dialogues (and I can't think of a good theme right now) but maybe if someone would co-BC it with me? This is just an idea, I'm not committing to BC anything right now. Or is anyone else interested in BC'ing another collection? Or is there a particular reason there hasn't been a collection for a while? I'd love to hear it if there is one :)
Another idea - I know someone wanted to do a Shakespeare Monologues collection. Do you think it would work if we combined them? As in, ten dialogues and ten monologues, or ten dialogues and however many monologues get submitted by the time all the dialogues are complete? (The monologues wouldn't have to be pre-selected). Is that completely not-going-to-work idea? :)

Thank you!
Rachel

There is a Lord Dunsany short story, Blagdaross, that I think would make an fun Dramatic Reading, but it is only about 1700 words, so seems a bit short for a standalone project. Would it be appropriate for the One-Act plays collections, or are they just for, well, um, (OK, part of me feels silly for asking this) plays?

The story has little narration, it is set in a junk yard, with several pieces of junk reminiscing about their histories.

Yes, the One Act Play collections have always been for plays.

There is a Dramatic Scene and Story collection which is almost finished - this sounds like the perfect piece to kick off the next one! ;) you'll have to ask Todd if he plans to do another one, or post in the DR Suggestions thread to see if anyone else is.

That sounds perfect . I felt a bit silly asking if the Plays collection was for Plays, but that is how you find things out! thanks for the help.

Dear All
I will shortly be setting up One Act Plays Collection 009 unless someone else has a burning desire to co ordinate it.

This is a good opportunity for anyone who would like to do a bit of editing and co-ordinate a play with support for any questions you may have. I am limiting the collection to 10 plays again as this is the most manageable.

Here is a list of previous plays so that you can start to think about whether you would like to set one up.

Please don't claim until I have set up the thread. Before you set up a play ensure you are prepared to take on the role of editor as it will be your responsibility to PL and edit your own play.

Also be prepared to take on a part in your own play if all the parts don't get taken by other readers. The last collection has taken almost 10 months and the one before took 15 months.

However, we should note that in the current collection, "Daniel and the Devil" is a short story by Eugene Field converted to play form (I'm guessing by aradlaw).

The One Act Play collections, the next installment of which is expected shortly, lets you pick and BC and edit plays of your choice. Perfect way to learn the processes before running your own play, or bringing a beloved one act play you have always wanted to hear to life.

I'm going to offer a collection that is very different from that, where I'll be doing all the BC and editing (probably not turning down any volunteer help!) and all folks need to do is offer their voices. A couple of years ago I BC'd the plays by Dickens, several of which were in the One Act Play collections and the other couple standalone. I have now found a book of "Short Plays From Dickens for the Use of Amateur and School Dramatic Societies" https://archive.org/details/cu31924014524874 This book has 20 short (10-20 minute) plays pulled from scenes and dialogs in various books and other writings by Dickens, and I am going to offer the entire book of them. Soon.

Thanks, Todd

(Re)posting this here to gauge the potential interest in a Shakespearean songs collection.

p.s.: As I was composing these, I got into the habit of making a "first take" recording within minutes after completing a song -- crude and unpolished, to be sure, but gives you an idea of what it might sound like in a production: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBpScZqJkjpfKeBRbqwmsFqJ_uqwizJpd
Maybe as a collection of Shakespeare's songs would be nice? Using this music and of course any other PD music to Shakespeare's words.
Note that some of the songs in my public-domain collection are collaborative in nature (either requiring ensemble singing or solo with instrumental accompaniment), but some are unaccompanied solos. (Putting together ensemble works can certainly be a challenge, but working in another non-LibriVox group I've developed some techniques for dealing with the challenges of creating an ensemble recording when participants are on opposite sides of the planet.)

Also, I haven't yet researched to see what other settings of Shakespeare songs there may be in the public domain!

Please reply in this thread (or via PM) if you have interest (or are simply curious, and would like to discuss).

THANKS!

You'd get a better response if you started a thread in the Suggestions forum, in my opinion. It's not really one act play planning. :)
