ToddHW wrote: May 15th, 2022, 5:08 am Well, to me your example is a physical action. I see the actor turning, stooping, waiting, and confidentially stage whispering to the audience for the aside, and then straightening up and turning back to Pancake to speak to him in character. When I edit I will expect to insert a gap before the "to Pancrace" that provides enough time in a listener's mind for those actions to have happened.

So a 3-5 second gap should go there. And the easy way is to ALWAYS put gaps in a character file. It is much easier for me to remove or edit a gap to be shorter when I assemble the play than it is to find the right place in a string of words to break them apart to add a gap or stage direction where it belongs.

Plus which, I tend to do my first rough assembly visually, based on the number of lines to insert of each character based on the gaps in the reader file. With gaps too short, I have to listen to each line as I assemble, which really slows me down. (Everything has already been PL'd so I don't have to worry about line errors.) I'd rather not listen until I am slowly going through the assembled act and making fine adjustments to timing and volume to tell the author's story as best I can.

Thanks, Todd
Todd, THANKS for the explanation of your process! Helps to clarify your needs for these projects, and the whole schema for creating these works is fascinating to boot.
Best,
Rob

As editor, I can easily fix the narration part in case something's wrong, so here is the completed Hagoromo at 14:16:

To the PL: I have included the introduction to the play, if you find this weird (it kinda gives the plot), I'll remove it.
Cheers, Ava.

Apparently I can't spell :( Hopefully that won't be an issue, since this is just an interim file, but let me know if you need it fixed.

Todd,
PL Okay for Hagoromo.
Ava, I think the introduction is fine-it sets the tone and adds just enough plot information.

Thanks,
Lora

Great. Thanks.

Here's an update to the overall project status

DONE:
1. Tradition
2. Trumpeter
4. Pariah
5. Hagoromo - needs cast list

READY TO EDIT:

FULL:
3. Kissed - 1 role assigned, 1 ready for PL, others PL OK; needs cast list

OTHER:
6. Forced - 1 role open, 1 has PL notes, others PL OK
7. Helena - 1 role open, 1 ready for PL, others PL OK
8. Самоубийца - 1 role open, 1 role assigned, 1 has PL notes
9. Cherry - 2 roles open, 2 roles assigned, 2 ready for PL, 1 PL OK
10. (not claimed)

Note that I keep the original role files at the end of the MW - useful for making cast lists once a play is FULL. (Many cast list format and html examples in other plays throughout the forum.)

Thanks, Todd

Hi Todd
I would like to propose the following play for number 10

*Title and author: Countess Julie by August Strindberg
* PD text link: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/8499
* Link to author on Wikipedia, and death date, if known: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_Strindberg 1912
* Link to title on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Julie
* Number of roles (including narrator) this project will have: 4 roles
* Original publication date: 1888
* The list of characters in your plays so when we have a MW I can set up your sections properly!

COUNTESS JULIE,
JEAN, a valet
KRISTIN, a cook
STAGE DIRECTIONS: Read by Michele Eaton
