I have launched "Crossings". As mentioned above, sadly it is not PD in Europe, et al.

Listening to the anonymous play Arden of Faversham on BBC radio I was surprised to see that there is no Librivox recording of this quite well known play. Published in 1592 it is a fictionalised version of a real life murder when Thomas Arden was murdered by his wife and her lover. A sort of Elizabethan-noir. I saw it at Stratford once and it is very good. Could anyone be persuaded to take it on. I might BC it myself if I could find a DPL and an editor.

I put it on my list a while ago, but never got around to it because I prefer to BC comedies.

I've been reading the book I'm BCing on "Feminism in Greek Literature" (blue link below) and I've become interested in "Alcestis", which I'd never heard of before. There appear to be 4 translations in the PD, of which we already have two. Does anyone have any information/preference about the other two? Also, I would need an editor, so I'm looking for expressions of interest - it's quite a short play, only about an hour fully recorded.

So of course the moment I decide to take a long break from doing plays, I find something I really want to launch: F. Scott Fitzgerald’s only play The Vegetable; or, From President to Postman. I’m reading through it right now and laughing out loud as I do so. Someone should really do this one.

I am immensely tempted, even though I have another play still going and I'm not sure I'd have the time to edit it all.

I know, right? It's awfully tempting. I wish I had time to coordinate this, but I worry that it might be difficult to keep up with the day-to-day if I take on too many projects at once. (Editing is generally not a problem -- I actually find it relaxing!)

I don't know a ton about this one, other than the fact that it won the Pulitzer Prize in 1923. So yeah... might be worth a look.
I've scanned through about half of this one, and I really like it so far! I'll keep it in mind.

EDIT: Author died 1956. So far, I think this is the only online text available.

Ok, ok, I know I just said I can't handle a play right now, but... I changed my mind! This one is simply too delightful. I'll get it going in the next day or two.

And... I know we discourage music and sound effects... But, do you think I might get away with a drum, if I'm really, really careful to make sure the sound I use is PD?

If I want to use sounds in plays, I just make them myself. Knocking on doors, sounds of drinking (tea), laughs, coughs, sighs, kisses, etc. If I make them myself I know they aren't copyrighted by anyone else!

The major problem with music is that it might be PD in terms of composition, but if you use a recording then the performance attracts a new copyright. Singing yourself in a play should be fine, or getting people to sing from something that is either PD or you've made up I think would be OK.

EDIT: I always make sure the sounds don't over lie the text. So knocking first then the line "who's there?"

Last time I needed a drum or a gong (I forget which) I went into the bathroom next to the room where I record and whacked a saucepan lid with a hairbrush! The tiles produced a very nice echo effect!
