Heh, it got my age right

My father has some loss of hearing. I had read a relevant article a while back, so I started talking to my father in lower pitched voice and it worked! I have more chance of being heard when I talk in normal volume and low pitch, rather than when trying to talk louder so he can hear, as when I talk louder my voice gets higher pitched...

That article also mentioned some high-frequency noise generators used in malls/stores as "teen-repellents" and "anti-loitering devices"!

I am in my late 40's and I can just barely hear the under 40 tone! So why is my daughter always telling me to turn up the volume on the TV??

Oh! I need to try that with my dad... he thinks he is hearing perfectly well and just everyone is talking too low...

so absolutely no chance of getting a hearing aid into his ear...

Don't worry too much...

if it bothers you make an appointment with your GP and have a hearing test there... that would yield more reliable results

Ah, thank you Julia!

I must say that not being able to hear screechy high pitched frequencies doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Only when I can't hear what people are saying will I start to worry, and then I'll complain that everyone is muttering!
