Evening fellow librivoxels. I have been entertaining the idea of possibly making an eventual career change. Such narrating audio books professionally or maybe getting into voice acting. Would I be able to use my time with you all to build a portfolio? Any other suggestions are more than welcome.

Thanks.

You can use your cataloged recordings as part of your portfolio, yes. They're public domain, so anyone can do anything with them, including you. :)

I've never tried to break into the VO field myself, but I've heard that most people make very little at it, that it's a difficult field to break into and earn a livable wage.

That is what I have heard too. If I can apply this in some way to a stable career in some form, that would be choice. I do enjoy this.

Just from what I have heard - it can be more enjoyable to record a book you enjoy than be paid to record one you don't :D :D :D

True. Very true. Want to try to submit a short story this month. Where is the most up to date public domain list of everyone's favorite racist author, howie lovecraft?

Look for titles published before 1926. From next year, 2022, you can also include works published in 1926.

Lovecraft has disputed copy-right status but that should be OK. There are a number in the catalogue , maybe check if you can access their text source?

Hi! Here is the scanned issue of Weird Tales that includes Dagon: https://archive.org/details/Weird_Tales_v02n03_1923-10/page/n23/mode/2up

You can find most of the Weird Tales scans on archive.org

Your book of cthulu mythos might hold a copyright Ⓒ so it's not safe to use for Librivox. But it's still a great book to have :D

Fair. I meant to say it was a collection of stories in the Cthulu mythos by Howie. Dagon is of the stories. Was also thinking about doing the Hound as well. The Hound was Published in Weird Tales February 1924.

As they are both short stories they would probably suit for one of the short story collections - I'm not familiar with all his stories but probably Short Ghost and Horror or else Science Fiction. If you read the first post in either you'll find out what the cordintors need and there are sometimes suggestions there too.
