Okay folks, here's the latest scoop. Arrangements have been made to move Mister Ron's Basement over to libsyn. As of tonight, with Episode #1402, new recordings have been halted while the transfer of every single Basement Episode is made.

This is probably the biggest individual Podcasting project anyone has ever attempted. Hopefully, all will be done by the end of July, and new Episodes will begin again. Not only do all episodes have to be moved over and archived as it goes, but each Episode address has to be put into a revised index which will need to be ready at the same time as the switchover fires up.

Meanwhile, the current index is still functional, and you can listen to every single one of the 1402 stories up there. It's at:

Well, as of a few days ago, Mister Ron's Basement's move to libsyn.com has been completed, and new episodes are being posted daily again!

If you have subscribed to the OLD Basement on iTunes, you need to Re-Subscribe to get New Episodes! If you haven't subscribed yet, please do! All 1400+ Episodes are available on iTunes to subscribers. There's a link to iTunes on the libsyn page, or just type Mister Ron's Basement in the iTunes search field.

I really doubt if anyone has ever attempted a Podcasting project as big as this move. Each Episode description had to be re-formatted and often re-written, and a handful of Episodes were audio re-edited to fix mistakes.

It took about six weeks with almost no sleep.

I am trying to rebuild my audience, so please spread the word. Always looking for Print reviews, write-ups, etc.

Meanwhile, we are featuring some great Don Marquis stories this week, and this past Monday we began a NEW weekly book serialization -- the unique 1880 book of virtual, electronic romance between two telegraphers, called 'Wired Love.'

I recommend the short stories in Edna Ferber's Buttered Side Down. They're very funny; she really had an ear for Midwestern voices and characters.

I posted this (in the wrong area) I would really like to advertise with your company in some form.

I created a website that acts much like LibriVox but for the amateur writers, not any published works.

Because of that, I feel my website could work in co-ordination with LibriVox, or maybe just exchange links in some way. I think a lot of your listeners would appreciate what I am trying to do.

Since we get most of our text from Gutenberg every now and then I head over to do some proofreading for them through Distributed Proofreaders. I was there most of today and I found something new they need help with. It's called Smooth Readers.

In Smooth Reading you don't actually proofread. This reading is done once the text is considered ready for release and they want one more read through.

I'm posting here because I thought it might be more favorable to our members than proofreading and what a great way to find new LibriVox projects.

Description: Smooth Reading
The goal of 'Smooth Reading' is to read the text attentively, as for pleasure, with just a little more attention than usual to punctuation, etc. This is NOT full scale proofreading, and comparison with the scans is not needed. Just read it as your normal, sensitized-to-proofreading-errors self, and report any problem that disrupts the sense or the flow of the book. Note that some of these will be due to the author and/or publisher.

Here's something that might be of interest to some LibriVoxers, especially those frustrated by US copyright law (and who isn't?): I'm in New Zealand, where copyright is life+50, so I can record lots of things that LibriVox can't host, such as everything G. K. Chesterton published during or after 1923.

Actually, I don't think I'd have the focus to record everything he published after that date, but I'm planning to start with The Everlasting Man, which C. S. Lewis called the "best popular defence of the full Christian position I know".

But, partly because I'll have to set up a website here in New Zealand to legally host the recording, and partly because I don't think I can afford the energy required to continue recording voluntarily (as I did for Progress and Poverty here on LibriVox), I'm only planning to do it if I can raise a certain amount of money for it. So, I've set up a pledge campaign to raise the money. (The pledges are denominated in New Zealand dollars, but people in other countries should be able to pay by credit card.) Once I've made the recording, I'll release it under a free culture licence.

As you'll see, TriciaG (also in a life+50 country), who edited my recording of Progress and Poverty, has agreed to edit The Everlasting Man, too (and I'll give her half the money, after PledgeMe has taken their fees).

And, you'll also see that I hope next year to start recording some works by the aforementioned C. S. Lewis, the 50th anniversary of whose death is next month.

Cool! They slap a copyright on them; I wonder if that would stand up to scrutiny, since they're simply scans - at least, the one book I looked at was just a scan.
