We live in the valley of a very small river (great for fishing for Salmon and Steelhead though). A road follows along the river, Kalama River Road as fate would have it. I was driving along this road very early one morning. It was very very dark. As I was driving a deer came running out of the woods along the road and attempted to run across the road. She made it across one of the two lanes, but unfortunately my car was in her way and she ran head long into the front drivers side fender. I was doing about 40-45 at the time. I looked out of the side-view mirror and saw her bounce of the car and continue to run in the same direction as she was originally headed, seemingly with out major injury. I don't know what the laws are in other areas, but around her if the deer (or elk [OUCH]) hits you there is no cost at all (deductable or anything else) to you, but if you hit the deer, watch out. The trick is not to clean the car before the insurance looks at it so they can see the deer hair and/or blood and guts on the side of your car to prove you were attacked by a vicious woodland animal.

It is fun and exciting living in the country. :9:
