My favourite when it comes to the Christmas dinner (which in Poland is actually eaten of the 24th) is my aunt's carp with mushroom sauce :9: There was also cabbage, potatoes, beetroot soup (which I always deny), and poppyseed dumplings. Oh my goodness Maria; I'm so glad Brian is okay!!

As planned, we did have tostadas yesterday- but we also had pork tamales, lumpias and pancit. Yummy! :wink:

My dad long remembered going to his grandparents' house for this sort of late Christmas Eve dinner when he was a boy. (His grandparents were Polish immigrants to the US). By my generation, the Wigilia custom had faded from practice, but I remember that my grandmother still did wonderfully piquant and tasty things with cabbage and beets, although usually for New Year's.
