Currently reading Adrian Stokes' Tonight The Ballet, an interesting introduction to said art form. First published 1934 in Britain, he focuses on the Russian dancers of the day, including Nijinsky. One of Stokes' children is a noted publisher, born in 1940.

My dad had a sub to Natural History magazine, so rec'd a copy of this anthology on their 75th anniversary. By LV standards, sadly, only one article is public domain -- an essay by Teddy Roosevelt from 1911 -- but the other articles go from the late 20's to the mid-70's, include two by Margaret Mead, and one piece from 1958 about New Guinea that is genuinely creepy.

For those of you enjoying The Durrells in Corfu on PBS, here are some copyrighted but freely-available poems by Lawrence Durrell, from Encounter magazine. The pair from 1961, Aphrodite and The Persian Lady are quite nice.
