Another late addition-- my grandparents had a shore house in Longport NJ, which is a tiny town on the end of Absecon Island (the other end of the island is Atlantic City, with little towns Margate and Ventnor in between.

Their house had an attic that was converted to a big bedroom with 4 beds and play area for the visiting grandkids. There was a deck with an outside door that was often open for ventilation on summer nights. Their street was the last on the island and there was a rock jetty and a bulkhead across the street. When the tide was up, the waves would break on the jetty and my specific comfort sound is the memory of hearing those booming waves followed a second later by the splatter of water drops as the spray hit the street. It was very comforting and tho the house has been gone for over 30 years, I can still vividly remember that sound.
