PDF-opening software other than Adobe Reader?

Everything except LibriVox (yes, this is where knitting gets discussed. Now includes non-LV Volunteers Wanted projects)

Adobe software works extremely slowly when opening the book I want to read and after the latest update it has slowed down even more. Can someone suggest an alternative? (I'm using Windows 7).

Win 8:

I'm using Nitro Pro 9, came with the laptop (Lenovo). There's a free version that does the trick for me, but if you need to cut out pages or merge documents etd, you'll have to pay for it. It's cheaper than adobe, but still expensive methinks.
Cheers, Ava.

I used Foxit for quite a while, but it got more and more Adone-ish Now I use pdf XChange viewer. It's free, it has lots of useful tool but it is fast and I never had any problems with it so far.

You can probably use your web browser to open PDFs. I know that works on Google Chrome and Opera, probably on FireFox and Edge too.

There's a place in Control Panel where you can change your default PDF viewer, and web browsers show up there. :)
