Let me add https://librivox.org/reuben-sachs-by-amy-levy/ - a short novel by a Jewish lesbian feminist. It tells of an Anglo-Jewish family in late-Victorian London -- in particular the relationship between two cousins.

And perhaps the 'Dickens of the Ghetto': https://librivox.org/children-of-the-ghetto-by-israel-zangwill/ ... the chap who invented the term 'melting pot'.
There's honestly no such thing as a stupid question -- but I'm afraid I can't rule out giving a stupid answer : : To Posterity and Beyond!

I was reading Amy Levy's biop on Wikipedia and thinking, "Wow, she critiqued Barrett at 13? This girl's kind of awesome." Then I saw she killed herself at 27 and my smile dropped right off. Cause of course she died young.

Also, catrose, I've read a bit of Gertrude Stein. She is a very different author. I couldn't finish Tender Buttons, but I could see why Hemingway thought of her as God's gift to Paris.

Thanks again for the support, everyone! You folks are great. :9:

Sadly Nella Larsen only wrote 2 books, but they are both amazing and powerful. They are Passing and Quicksand. Passing is my favourite, it gave me the shivers.

Also I recently listened to The Golden Threshold by Sarojini Naidu, who, as well as being a poet, was also the first woman president of the Indian National Congress. Beautiful poetry.

It's only short, but Southern Horrors: Lynch Law In All Its Phases by Ida B. Wells is an incredibly important book.

Paulownia is a collection of stories by Japanese writers.

Charles Alexander Eastman (born Hakadah and later named Ohíye S’a) was a Native American Author who wrote several factual books, including Indian Child Life, a very readable description of growing up in a traditional Native American environment.

Noli Me Tangere was banned by the authorities in the Philippines, for acurately describing the abuses perpetrated by the Spanish government in a fictional setting. It is now required reading in Philippine schools. It is a fantastic, compelling work of literature.

Those are my LibriVox suggestions - I also have plenty of recommendations for modern works by authors of colour - you can check out my Goodreads Shelf and look at the things I've rated highly.
So little space, so much to say.
