And it was the Knitting Podcast www.cast-on.com that alerted me to your presence on the net...and prompted my eventual joining and recording.

I'm a knitter, crocheter, spinner who's working on (and will not finish) the Vogue Map of the World afghan for the Knitting Olympics. I think I should have started with "My name is Heather, and I'm a knit-a-holic..."

Oooo I made a crocehted yo-yo afghan and won 2nd prize at the county fair a couple of years ago :) Photo is on this page if you scroll down a bit:

It was fun to make, although weaving in the HUNDREDS of yarn-ends was not a pleasure. It's made of Cleckheaton Country 8-ply washable wool (my favorite yarn).

Vogue map of the world afghan? What's that? Sounds really cool.

The map of the world afghan was published in the 2002 (?) Vogue Knitting and was something I was immediately drawn to (my Dad's a geographer so I've always liked old maps). There are links to pics of it on my blog, and a pic of the first completed panel too. It's four panels that are easily 6 feet long, 80 or so stitches wide...and made of Tahki Donnegal Tweed which is NOT a pleasure to knit with.

It was a mistake.

But it IS gorgeous.

And I will not finish it for the Olympics. i'll be impressed if I finish another panel.

I think after this a Fair Isle sweater will look easy.

Wow Heather, that's a really cool looking afghan

As for an update on Kri's knitting....I'm still knitting like crazy! I restarted that scarf that I did, it was way way too wide but it was good practice being my first knitting ever. I couldn't resist starting another project, a hat. Then, I've started even ANOTHER project. I'm making my mother a shawl for her birthday in July

I'm really enjoying knitting. Can't wait to learn spinning eventually!

I know that wasn't directed to me, but as I'm in So Cal too and have listened to the Crafty Chica, I thought I'd answer. I'm in Westlake Village/Thousand Oaks. Love the Crafty Chica but have to admit I haven't listened in a while.

That looks fantastic, Heather. I'd love to do one, but I'd crochet it instead, as I have a hard time with intarsia. Must get that pattern!

i found librivox through brenda dayne as well! i'm just a listener now (THANKS KAYRAY AND ANNIE! LOVE YOUR STUFF) but have requested a mic for my birthday and would LOVE do to tess of the d'ubervilles by thomas hardy.

i'm working on the lace cardy "sweet mary jane" from knitpicks and just finished up a yoga mat bag last night. the sweater is a WOP and lacks one sleeve and the yoke. almost finished!

the yoga mat bag is the one from SnB Nation. it's a diagonal lace pattern and i only glanced at the pattern a few times for general advice. i used peaches and cream cotton in a worsted weight. i'll take pics soon but i haven't yet! need to get on that..... it was a quick i-feel-so-bad-my-aunt-keeps-sending-me-gifts return gift i plan on getting out to her tomorrow.

Never heard of SnB Nation till you mentioned it, but after Googling it, I see it's extremely popular. (This is Stitch and Bitch Nation, for the unfamiliar, which I was.) How's the book?

I can't believe knitting has become so popular again. I've been doing it for decades, and all of a sudden I'm noticing it's huge. What's brought all this on, I wonder.
