Knitting! (and other needle arts...)
Yeah, I always find better results when I wind my own balls (center-pull or not). Although, I do prefer the center pull ball, and have found a good size 15 or 13 needle will work for a nostepind
Oh yeah, I forgot about winding your own center-pull ball! I keep one of those long M&M tubes around for that purpose (also makes a good place to store ring markers).

Towards the end of this page there's a video showing how to wind the center-pull ball. It's where I learned, and when I saw it I thought "Duh! That's so easy!"

That is a link to the yarn winder I use. It speeds up making warp balls from my multi-pound cones of yarn. Great low price, bulk, good quality yarn source in US: http://www.rmyarns.com/ my closet is full of these mill ends, including silks, rayons, linen, and the basic cotton!

I've just been spinning the most thin yarn I've yet done, on the most beautifully soft and smooth silk. I was just in complete amazement as I was spinning it. It felt like it was spinning itself! I just can't get over it.

I know you all are surely dying to know about my progress on the Coronet hat. I didn't actually start it until a few nights ago. Here's what I have so far...
I had a devil of a time with the provisional cast on and when I do the Kitchener stitch to make the band one big loop I have a feeling it won't be as seamless in appearance as it should be but oh well. The cables are so pretty!

Any west coasters going to Stitches West 2007 in February? Classes or market?
I am thinking of taking a couple classes...not many left to choose from at this point. I will definitely go to the market for a few hours.

So, English or Continental? Or has that already been discussed and I missed it? I've been doing English as that's how I learned but the more I knit, the more pain I have in my right shoulder and I'm wondering if it is from throwing the yarn. I've decided to try Continental and see if that helps at all. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Continental, unless I'm doing something with two colors (fair isle or whatever) in which case it's English with one color and Continental with the other.

I think what I do is English...let me look it up...Yep I knit English. I think I knit kind of odd too, because I'm left handed. One would think Continental would be easier for me, or knitting backwards but...nope. Although, I don't put the needle in the stitch, I slip the stitch over the needle, if that makes sense.
Was originally taught English, switched myself to Continental when I got "serious" about knitting 6-7 years ago. I am so much more proficient with Continental...but try to keep my English skills in good form. I switched largely because I, too, was getting pain in my right shoulder/rib area...and it was from knitting! Who knew the injuries such an art could cause.

Hmm, interesting. Last night I spent almost two hours knitting Continental to get used to it and once I got in the rhythm of it, I did find it faster. And today, less pain and pinching in my right shoulder! So hopefully that'll do the trick.
