I used to have a punk band and play in squat houses when I was a teenager. You are not so "out of place" after all...putitinyourshoe wrote:hmm. i'm pretty surprised and i feel a bit outta place. anyway, i really like the clash and the sex pistols and the ramones. i also listen to a lot of indie stuff like ted leo and architecture in helsinki and the arcade fire. so woohoo for diversity!
Music - What are you listening to?

Just about any recording with Bill Evans, piano (NOT sax.)
Very important and influencial jazz pianist, who unfortunately died in 1980, barely 50 years old. I'll stop with this, otherwise I'll go on for pages.
Very worth trying. If you've heard of him and would like some suggestions, would be happy to give.

Jimmy Buffett - I might be the biggest Parrothead you ever met.
Any Bluegrass ever recorded - yeah, KATWAL!
Classic rock - e.g., Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Steve Miller Band, Aerosmith, CCR, etc.
80's! It seems to be getting kinda trite, but those were my formative years!
Classical - I listen to KCME all day, every day, at work).

I love musicals and film scores! I mostly listen to that with a lot of jazz and classic R&B (Diana Ross, James Brown etc.) thrown in. Also most oldies (classic rock and pop) from the 50, 60's, and 70's.
I also like the genre of "ragtime", jazz's predecessor around the Victorian age.

I've been on a big Mark Knopfler kick lately. The two albums spinning in my player night and day are: One Take Radio Sessions and All the Roadrunning (with Emmylou Harris).
And my favorite Knopfler song not found on those CD's: "What It Is" from Sailing to Philadelphia.
Of course, these CD's are about to get a break as my latest audiobook request is in at the library.

I had to resuscitate this old thread to plug...
Nico - 'The Frozen Borderline: 1968-1970/the Marble Index/Desert Shore/Remastered & Expanded'
Unbeeeeeelievably haunting and unique.

I'm an old school rocker. I'm a Van Halen FANATIC, love Led Zep, Hendrix, Aerosmith, etc. My main hobby is collecting and trading unreleased live concerts and recordings. By the way, if anyone's interested in any of these shows, I have a ton of stuff!
I'm also into jazz; I love Miles, especially his hard bop years.

Just discovered Pandora thanks to this thread being resurrected. What an excellent idea! It's even heard of Fairport Convention...

I recently got some new speakers and I am listening to my cd collection again and discovering gems I had forgotten about!
BUT - I always come back to:
classical - Aaron Copland, Mahler and Philip Glass
rock - Captain Beefheart (just got the unreleased "Bat Chain Puller" album!), Hendrix, Pink Floyd and The Who.
Singer/songwriters - Dylan, Tom Waits.
edit: Glass' opera Satyagraha is at ENO in London in April - I hope I am well enough to go, and there are still tickets available for a last minute booking
