Anyone else here a quilter?

I only ask because I am proud of myself. I just finished my first Delectable Mountains, and it's probably the best one I've come out with so far.

But I am always excited to learn about other people who quilt -- it's not a very big hobby out here in L.A.

I made a quilt for my husband's birthday (in May) a couple of years ago! (turned out to be a bigger project than I expected -- so it was also a Christmas present heheh) I had done some small projects, but this was my first full-size quilt. It's a red-and-tan monkeywrench pattern. I am shocked to find that I seem to have NO PHOTOS of it online! I'm sure I took some. Well, I'll take more. I pieced it on the machine but all the quilting is hand-done. I did it Georgia Bonesteel lap-quilt style so I could quilt it easily.

Oh there's a photo of the first small chunk of it on this page:

Georgia Bonesteel is fabulous. I inherited a couple of her books from an ex-boyfriend's grandmother (if that's not too confusing), and I'm completely in love with them. Any idea what the name of your pattern was called?

Monkeywrench.
here's a big photo of the beginning of it.

It looks REALLY COOL now that it's finished and king-size :)

That is lovely! The quilting itself is so detailed. Did you do it by hand or machine?

Pieced it by machine but ALL quilting was hand done! *whew* :)

I am seriously impressed now. Hand-quilting a king-sized quilt is nearly impossible, in my opinion. I don't know if I would ever get it done.

Well, it's "king size" in that it covers (barely) a kingsize bed. No overhang, though :)

I felt so ashamed at having no photos that I just went out and took some!

My mother's a quilter in the L.A. area (Pasadena, actually) and she works part time at a quilt shop.

The quilt is at the laundromat just now -- my little washing machine isn't big enough to gold it, and I am the proud but unfortunate owner of Katy the Quilting Wonderdog, who gets into everything and sheds on it to claim her ownership. But in the meantime here are my other two most recent projects:

This Starry Night quilt was made for my goddaughter's arrival, but didn't end up getting finished until two months after she was born.

And these are from my current project, which will ideally be a wedding quilt for myself someday (assuming I ever get married). But mostly I just wanted to learn the stained-glass quilting technique!

I've done quite a bit of quilting... in a "past life" ... but I guess you could say that I am now retired from quilting =)

C, I wish your thumbnails were clickable! I'd love a closer look. The stained glass ones look super-cool! Are you using paper-piecing? I found it quite helpful for mine. My god, how do you get the black lead lines in there? Must see close-ups!

Hey, two months after the baby was born isn't bad at all! Mine was finished 7 months late :)

I added links -- I'm afraid I'm not savvy enough to make the photos clickable. But the lead lines are nothing more than a thin bias tape, appliqued over the edges of the pictures. I've also done a reverse-applique version of a stained glass quilt, but it was only a very small square, and frankly I like the look of this better.

Oh my, those are so lovely. My goodness. Was it hard piecing all those odd shapes together? Are they ALL appliqued on a background or are they really pieced?

it's easy to make thumbnails clickable! If you don't mind I can do it in your post, above, and then you can look at the code and see how it's done :)

I love those last two pictures, because they look like stained glass :) I don't think I have the patience to quilt, but I have made one or two small ones in my younger years.
