On my first pass reading this sentence I tried it three or four times, but even the least bad of them was bad enough that the DPL for the project put it on the list of issues. When I was editing I tried five times to get it, and then six more times and I think I finally got it on the eleventh. The first five are here, this is what my unedited files sound like. Ruth was struggling in the sentence, and I was struggling to say it, for some reason. I am hoping to learn better diction, and to figure out how to have good pacing without stammering.

Oh yes! Sometimes these books contain such unfamiliar strings of syllables that they don't just roll off our tongues. You did great, keeping at it. I often have to repeat a phrase several times, slow it down, and gradually speed it up until my mouth muscles learn how to say it easily. I understand that even professionals -- who have been doing this for decades and who rehearse before recording -- get tangled and have to do retakes. Each author and era has a different manner of speaking, which requires us to practice or stumble along the way.zachh wrote: ↑November 23rd, 2020, 5:06 pm ...I think I finally got it on the eleventh. Somehow, the combination of 19th-century language and the subject of candy-making was the perfect recipe for a laughfest.
I hope it also gives you a chuckle, dear listener!

You know you've been too long away from your solo when... you forget a character.
(I didn't see "said Nina" until after I read it in "Stephen's" voice, hence the deeper tone. But I still didn't know who Nina was until a few sentences later. To my defense, she was introduced as a character only a chapter or two earlier.)

Those ticking sounds you heard on the printer back in the 60s and 70s were coming from men and women with large forearms actually typing live on machines.
Well, one of them made a typo. (A rare occurrence)
The I and the O are next to each other on the keyboard.
This was about the Alaskan Pipe being laid.
