Why you shouldn't use Real Player

Everything except LibriVox (yes, this is where knitting gets discussed. Now includes non-LV Volunteers Wanted projects)

(Beside the fact that it truncates our files)

Hilarious but true (in my experience). Stay away from Real :)

Realplayer just smells. It smells so badly, you can smell it even before you click on the download link.

I loved that text. Somehow i feel like it missed to mention the adware/spyware that i ASSUME will be installed along secretly with realplayer.

The RealplayerAlternative, just like the QuicktimeAlternative works fine, for instance for the Amazon previews. What else would you need RealPlayer for? Amazon should change their streams to something else - RealPlayer might die then.

Perhaps I shouldn't use Real Player but I do, at least partly because BBC 'Listen Again' broadcasts come across in .ra format (unless you re-record tham)
So - Does anyone know of any programs that will convert .ra to .wav etc. I've only found one 'Switch' which comes with 'Net Transport' but the front end is dodgy and I don't like being dependant on a single program.

Also .ra files are app. half the size of mp3 and for speech, I for one can't tell the difference, but of course that may be my hearing.

Look for a program called 'Real Alternative'.
I've only tried it once so far but it seems to be working.
