So I'm pretty stoked right about now, and finding it extremely difficult to focus on my work.
DUDE!! That rocks!

My brother and I once were going to do a public-access comedy show and hope that we were noticed... but then life happened and it never went far. We have some material written that I would love to share here in the forums, but we're holding back - just in case....

Speaking of KITH - one of my favorite lines of all time comes from them... "What the hell is this? Tap shoes? I don't dance...I can't dance, ya little bastard!"

I'm hoping to finish the draft today. I took a day off yesterday and should have finished it then, but alas, I bought Grandia III on the weekend and it ate my day.

I finished my draft!

I think I'll be meeting with my producer friend next week sometime.

Hi, Everybody--

I lurked my way through the postings in this thread, and saw a lot of discussion about novels and writer's block and NaNoWriMo.

I would heartily recommend NaNoWriMo. I've been writing one thing or another since high school (or maybe even before that -- too long ago to contemplate), and always wanted to try my hand at novel length stuff. I would get bogged down in the details or the editing-as-I-go syndrome or the research, but then I discovered NaNo four years ago. I reached 39,000 words my first November, passed 50K the second year, passed 100K the third, and did about 86K this past November.

None of those were complete novels, and were mostly random verbal spewings anyway, but a couple of them had good central plots and some interesting characters. I put in a lot of time over the past few months, and now have a very large, very rough first draft which combines my NaNo "novels" from Years Two and Four. I finally (just a few days ago) got past that first REALLY big hurdle -- getting through the main bulk of the story, however rough, at least once.

I'm going to set it aside for a few more weeks and let it percolate before I start editing, but I think it's going to be pretty good when I'm done.

Ahoy everyone.

Not that I wish to draw traffic away from Librivox, but I've created my own community for writers and those who like to discuss writing.

I've made a bunch of sections and whatnot, but I'm very open to suggestions regarding the shape of the forum.

Please come join me at http://starvingwriter.iforumer.com

Starving Writer uses the same software as the LibrVox forum, so it'll be extra easy for everyone here to use.

See you over there!

I'm in dire need of a good idea for a graphic novel. I have an opportunity to be paired with a comic book artist in a collaborative effort, but I'm experiencing a bit of a block.

I thought it would be good to adapt an old story, and Beowulf immediately came to the front of my mind, but somebody's already done that. (damn)

Any other ideas of old stories that are worthy of graphic noveldom?
I would suggest Cleland's Fanny Hill, for the ribald set, and Defoe's Robinson Crusoe or Captain Singleton for the "action movie" set. PM me if you want to discuss this ... there are many particulars.

By the way, I enjoyed very much participating with you in today's podcast hosted by Paula Berenstein about writing. Wasn't that fun? What is Robert's handle, I'd love to stay in touch about writing.

Just wanted to let everyone know that The Writing Show podcast featuring our very own Robert, Basil, and Denny is now available at http://www.writingshow.com and through all the usual aggregators. It's called Writers' Roundtable #1, and it is smashing, if I do say so myself. I hope Kri, Aldark, David, and all the writers here at Librivox will participate in future roundtables. Fun!!!!

Paula

P.S. BTW, stay tuned for Betsie and Annie taking on intellectual freedom and censorship on May 2nd!

Paula: I just listened to the edited podcast. Great job! You made us sound so good together ... all pauses, ahems, and sillinesses edited out.

I've never heard myself in this fashion, and it was an illumination. Kudos to you and Robert and Basil.

You think I edited out the sillinesses, do you, Denny?

Glad you enjoyed it. I can't wait to do it again!

I just made myself a brand new blog.

The Story Box

It features flash fiction and short fiction, mostly of the sci-fi and fantasy genres. And I use those terms in their broadest senses. Tell your friends about it and leave feedback.

Very nice short story, Basil--
It reminds me of the kind of "in the know" story that Ray Bradbury might write.
Well done,
Michael
